daughter was told by her friend that she would look good with blonde streaks, im not sure though(but i am her mother lol)
she has long , straight hair, brown. thought I could find a site that could show us with the streaks put in to show what she could look like. went to ladies home journal, but that only have models and dont no how to download a picture of daughter (we dont have one of just her -there is one on me and her)
is there any other site that would help get an idea of how it would look on her. (she is 16yr)???
want to let her try different styles but want to be right one for her.
she says it can wash out or she could make it all one color again if she dont like it.
any help with this, would be greatful. thanks again.
a mom in ohio.

Hi,

First, be thankful she doesn't want to die it black or pink. You have a smart growing daughter and these are the years she will be experimenting to find her inner and outer self. I would let her experiment. It is the only way she will learn. She may love streaks, she may hate streaks, but she won't know until she tries. She is lucky to have a supportive mummy!

The best way to see visuals is to google hair styles. I googled hair streaks in google in the images tab and came up with TONS of photos.

Good luck and happy dying. :)

If anything, I would suggest just getting highlights done. It looks really great compared to getting blonde streaks put in, especially if her hair grows quick - then you will always have to run back to the salon to get touch ups done to them. That's what I've always done since I was around 16, also. It turned out great, and I still get touchups done on my roots with highlights about every 3 to 4 months. It just depends on how fast hair grows.

I also think that it getting highlights looks way better. I have a really close friend of mine that had streaks put in her hair and it doesn't look as good as highlights. With highlights the lighter color blends with your natural hair color, which in my opinion looks a whole lot better. I think it kinda looks like tiger stipes or something... lol.

I suggest going to see a hair dresser and getting in done professionally. In my experience, if you buy a kit from a store to do it yourself it will normally turn out bad by making you have that orangy-brassy color. I'm not sure how it will work out if she has brown hair though. You may have to get a bleaching kit and first bleach the parts that you want streaked blonde, and then put the color in. I just recently had a problem with using those kits because I thought that I could save a few dollars, but it's well worth it to take it to a professional and let them do it. Sometimes if you go to a good hair dresser - that's younger, and hipper, lol- then they can always suggest something to do with her hair, especailly if you're nervous about her getting blonde streaks put in.

Highlights are a big step, but low risk. Let her experiment and don't worry! Hair grows out and can be easily re-dyed if she really hates it.

Two things you can do in preparation.
1. Go to a wig shop and see how she looks with more blonde in her hair. Have her experiment with different colors too. She can look at white blonde vs. strawberry, etc. Just seeing how these colors appear with her skin tone can be very telling. You may want to take pictures of her with these wigs on to show a stylist. Maybe she'll be interested in taking a smaller step and adding red or light brown into her hair.

2. Go to a trusted stylist and ask them to put the blonde streaks in, but make it look natural. Professional stylists are trained to blend highlights into the natural tones of your hair. They'll be able to choose the right shade based on her current tones and tastes. For instance, as a red-head, I need a more honey-colored streaks than straight blonde or it looks funny.

When you go in to see the stylist, have her bring pictures of highlighted hair that she likes (its easy to find these pictures in magazines). This will help your stylist understand exactly how bold and chunky your daughter will like.

Then go! Experiment. Have fun and don't worry...its just hair and hair grows back. :)

You know every teenager goes through phases of fashion and looks. This is hers. Streaking her hair is a very simple and innocent phase. I'd say let her. What happens if she doesn't like it. It'll grow out or you can color it back. Easy as that. If you prevent her from little things like this, you run the risk of her rebelling on bigger issues.
Be supportive and see where that goes.
Now, if she wanted to shave her head because her friend said so, that's a different story. That's a major change. Streaking the hair is as common as anything.

hi,i don't know any sites sorry, but from experience,if you buy a streaking kit,you can put the streaks where she likes.just start with a few for now. if she doesn't like it,you can dye over it but not straight away.after about a week you can.if its blond streaks and she doesn't like it,don't put a brown on top,you have to tone it down with a red .wait a week then put brown back on it. hope this helps

Hello Mom in Ohio! I just feel that if she really wants to, let her. It's not permanent, so there isn't any harm done. Remember when we were teenagers, we wanted to frost, streak, color and bleach our hair - not to mention perms! She'll always wonder so why not just give it a whirl? :)

I would recommend suggesting that she got goldish highlights. That would look more natural and you can't go wrong with that! =)
I have the same haircolor as your daughter and I think it looks nice!

maybe put extentions in her hair, they have some where you can clip them into place where you want them, and it would be less harmful on her hair. This way she colud style it how she wants it.
