I think she might want a formal wedding. Do I just give her the reigns and sit back?

Talk to her about how you feel. You need to see if you're right about what she wants, first of all - you may not have anything to worry about. If she wants a formal wedding, see if there are ways you two can personalize it. Come up with ideas that you would like to see incorporated - what would YOUR ideal wedding be like? And - this is very important - be willing to put in the time and work to carry out your ideas. If it's that important to you, you should be contributing to the work part of it, too, not just the idea. Good luck and congratulations!

This is HER gig, the day she's been dreaming for... so just show up and she'll be happy.

If you really would like to say something on the matter, say that your would like the wedding to be somehow unconventional, and perhas a little bit of creativity to get out of the norm could make your day even more special. Unless you are pitching in ideas or coming up with cash to do the wedding your way, don't bring up the subject.

Congrats and good luck

It is your wedding to, you should have some say in the wedding. Just tell her that you feel that a formal wedding is played out and you want to try something different.

Since you are engaged you should have a realtionship where the 2 of you can talk about these things. Tell her what you think, honestly. Modern weddings can be a blend of what ever the 2 of you want. Talk about what the 2 of you want most for your day together and build the plans around that. The day is for both of you, though she may have been thinking about it her entire life. Do not shoot any of her suggestions out of the air, talk about them and figure out waht you both wnat so both of you can be happy and have a good time.

No, don't just set back and let her have the reigns...women like to hear your opinions. Just talk to her, tell her what you think and why and then you should be able to come to an agreement. We like to know that you care because yes it is mostly our day but we like to know you want to be involved if giving an option about something just pick something don't ever say whatever ones fine with you. Good Luck and Congrats.

Just talk to her about how you feel. After all, it is the marriage you should be concentrating on, not the wedding.
A big wedding does not mean it is more meaningful. If being with you is what she wants then she will settle for a basic wedding.

What we did that worked out great was we bought our own invitations and I printed them up. It was actually quite fun to work with them and do them myself - and they turned out simple and classy. Plus, it cost virtually nothing! It was only $5 at the local art supply store for a 50 invitation and reply card set, and that included all the envelopes too. See if she'd be interested in doing that. Our invitations weren't ornate - but they were perfect for us and I liked being able to personalize them.

If you are splitting the cost then it is your money and you have a say too. You have to be upfront from the beginning with your fiancee about your wishes. The best way to let her know you are serious is to present her with some cheaper alternative to show her you have really done your research.

You need to talk to her about it because it is your wedding too. But let her do some of her own ideas, its every girl's and woman's to get married.
