Certainly not until your doctor releases you, but I started back after about 6 weeks. I took it easy and was back to regular exercise after about 10 weeks post surgery with no side effects. I did mostly easy cardio the first few days with light weights.

Do not go back to excercising yet! Give your body more than ample time to rebound and when you feel ready ask your doctor for his final blessing. There's been times when joggers sprain their ankles only to resprain their ankles even worse because they thought the pain was completely gone.

You should follow your doctor's orders first of all but I would guess that he/she said in about 6-8weeks and start back gradually so you don't srain your muscles or injure yourself worst.
