This question has no right or wrong answer, but I am curious to read everyone's response. Why do you believe there is a higher power, (be it "God", or "Allah" or whatever)?

Besides the Bible I think it is really arrogant to believe that humans/nature are responsible for everything that happens on earth. There are so many amazing things and I really don't think that the earth just developed like that. I believe that there is a God but not in organized religion.

Atheism is also a pretty new religion and basically lacks all credibility to me. I've known a lot of bad 'christians' in my day but I've never met an Athiest that has ever presented a better arguement than 'well the bible says that god loves everybody but my life sucks, therefore that isnt true and uhhh theres no god. Christians are a bunch of idiots, let the dinos rule the earth'

Because I've seen the miracle of answered Prayer. He answered my prayer when he gave me my Son. I was unable to conceive and he made it possible. then there is this story.

My friends have a child that had an incurable medicle disorder. They were told by the doctors that this child would not live past the age of 3 yrs. On this childs 3rd birthday the doctors could find no trace of this incurable disorder in the childs system. My friends had been holding prayer vigils nightly at there home for weeks pryor to the childs b-day. Everyone I knew would be at these prayer vigils. When the doctor found no trace of this disorder he said "I guess your God thing must be working". This child is now 6 yrs old. No trace of the disorder has ever reoccurred. Miracles!!

Because if there is no God, then why go on living. Life on earth, while it has its good moments, is on the whole not worth living if the end is just to rot into worm food. The idea of heaven and an afterlife gives me a reason to go on living, and to live a good, decent and productive life.

Besides, look up at the sky on a clear night, or down on a mountain or field from an airplain. Everything is so big and beautiful, and we are so small...I cannot believe that it is all one cosmic accident.

because God exists whether you believe it or not. It's like if I tell you it's raining here where i am, and someone far off says well i dont believe it does it automatically make them right. Just because you dont believe doesnt make his presence any less real. But besides that it would be a dark and lonely place to think that we are here in this world without a higher power

Its not about why do we belive, its about why it was introduced.
If you look at the history you will see that only powerfull tool to control for all generations and nations are idealogy. And all idealogy are based on fear.
Pppl can refuse rewards but its hard to avoid punihsment.
All religions ( including communizm) are based on punishment.
When some1 is prommising your heaven or better life they can't explain you what that is. All they can say its good and you can't imagine. But at the same time they spent great amount of time to scare you give you every detail of punihsmnet. Be it hell or be it jail or any other punihsments.
Fear always works and been the best Tool.

Thefore Fear exist. from this we can see that GOD and Catolics do exist.

I am not going to try to push my personal beliefs upon you. I will say this, I believe in God because there is no science or rational explanation that someone can give me to explain life other than a "divine." How is it that we so effortlessly breathe? Everything on earth needs a source of energy in order for that thing to be. Household appliances (electricity), automobiles (gasoline), etc...How is it that we just exist? No one can give you an answer that would be satisfied with. Just know that there is a source of life that needs to be acknowledged. Either now or later, but you will acknowledge it. (Not yourself, specifically, but anyone who doesn't acknowledge). How do you know the wind exists? You can't see grab it, pick it up, etc....But you wouldn't have a hard time explaining to someone that it does in fact exist. That is how you should approach the divine, you know it exists because of all of the evidence that there is for it, even though you can't see HIM. PS...I am a believer in the faith of Christianity.

Tough question to answer. I've answered several times & try not to reduce to the same trite and boring phrases. The gist of it is that when I had nowhere to turn but to God, He was there for me. He had answers that I couldn't find anywhere else (still does). And the simple act of just being willing to believe was large enough for Him to start performing miracles in my life. Today I have seen so much personal evidence for God that I'd be crazy not to believe.

I believe in god, because i start to think about the human process, and the birth process and all of that stuff. When you think about it, you'll realize that noone in this world is able to create a body, with all of its organs, toes, fingers, eyes, and all of that stuff, you have to look at it, its been talk about people cloning people, and trying to make arms mutate and stuff, but has that stuff successfully happened, No? The answer to creating a human body, isn't found yet, and wasn't found back then, with or without technology, so God must have had something to do with the creations of a body, well he has everything to do with it.

Those who believeth in me though they were dead will live.

Some people erroneously believe that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its members are not Christian. We have difficulty understanding why anyone could accept and promote an idea that is so far from the truth. President Gordon B. Hinckley has described Church members as a people “bound [together] by a common love for our Master, who is the Son of God, the Redeemer of the world. We are a covenant people who have taken upon ourselves His holy name.” 1

Our beliefs and actions may differ from those of others, but we, as good Christians, do not criticize other religions or their adherents. “We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.” 2

A dictionary defines a Christian as “one who professes belief in Jesus as the Christ or follows the religion based on [the life and teachings of Jesus],” and “one who lives according to the teachings of Jesus.” 3 Thus two characteristics identify Christians: (1) they profess belief in a Savior, and (2) they act in harmony with the Savior’s teachings. Faithful members of the Church, called Saints or Latter-day Saints, qualify clearly in both characteristics. In our belief and our action, we demonstrate that “Jesus Christ himself [is] the chief corner stone” of our faith.

Very good question. Myself, it's hard to put into words - it's just a feeling deep down, a belief. Of course, I do believe that much has to do with what you're raised to believe. Now you...Do YOU believe in God, why or why not? :)
