Good results in retinal detachment surgery depend upon several factors:
(1) Duration- The sooner the patient is operated upon, the better the expected result.
(2) Location- Detachment farther away from central vision give better results than those located near the center of the eye.
(3) Size- Small detachments give better results than very large ones.
(4) General state of the retina- The less the degree of retinal degeneration; the better the postoperative outook. Generally, the younger the patient, the less retinal degeneration.
