The expiration date is not a time bomb. Manufactures of food products must submit tests on their products to demonstrate Shelf-life. The items are kept in average (not the best)environments and tested to see when bacteria sets in. Then they average the results for an expiration date. If the expiration date is not too long past and the item was stored in a cold environment, it most likely is still good. If it was sitting on the widow sill or left out for a while, don't eat it. As in all unknown foods, use your nose, or better yet, don't try it.

Yes it is, but don't wait like 5 years after it's expired. I'd say a month or 2 later.

I've never had the problem as they disappear long before that happens. However, you can extend the expiration date by storing them in the freezer. That seems to happen around holloween when I can get bags and bags at a great price.

Yes it's okay. FDA wants and expects all consuming products to have a life expectancy. If your chocolate bar is turning white, I'd toss it.
