I was put on a low dose of Prozac after feeling like I worried a little more than the average person..I went to a small clinic in my area because every morning I woke up with worries and would feel depressed and anxious all the time. I felt like I didn't have control over anything. Also, have wierd tendencies to build up fears of certain things..like taking an unfamiliar street I've never been...(I'll drive out of the my way before I'll take a street Im nervous about.) People who ride with me get anoyed because it takes a lot longer sometimes to get anywhere. I've just had a baby and have been so busy with him that I haven't been able to make it in for refill. I can tell that I'm going back to the same nervous reck I was before medication. Big difference..The medication didn't really make me happy or anything like that..I just didn't worry like I did. There was stress but I handled it differently. Why did the medicine change me so much? I was never diagnosed.

It's not really possible to diagnose someone based on their short statement on Yahoo Answers. It does sound like you have experienced some depression and anxiety and that you did benefit from using a medication. Antidepressants like Prozac aren't intended to make people feel "happy" all the time, but they do help certain people deal with stress a little more easily. Prozac in particular helps people feel more energized - which may have helped you deal better with stress. Questions like this should really be directed toward your doctor or psychiatrist - they are going to be the best ones to answer your questions and make recommendations for strategies to address your difficulties.

Prozac helped balance the chemicals in your brain to enable you to handle stressful/anxious situations. It does not make you "happy", but enables you to make yourself happy. You really need to get your prescription refilled so you can continue to care for your baby the way your are now. Bear in mind how difficult it was to drive down a street that made you anxious. The good news is that you may only have to take the medication for a time.

Based upon what you have described, I don't feel that you have OCD. OCD=Obsessive, Compulsive Disorder is usually aimed to particular actions that you repeat several times in a row. Like some people with OCD will wash their hands 6 or more times in a row convinced that their hands are still dirty. Or they may check 6 or more times in a row if they locked the doors to their house before they go to bed and so on.

However it sounds like you have some anxiety and stress and depression. Prozac is an anti-depressant drug specifically aimed for depression. It also sounds like you may be suffering with post traumatic stress depression too from having your baby.

To regain control in your life and have pleasant months and years with your baby, I strongly recommend that you make an appointment with your family doctor and explain exactly how you are feeling. Doctors are not mind readers. They depend on their patients to tell them the truth about what is happening to them in their lives. Your doctor may be able to suggest you seek a different psychiatrist to go to or to go for some counseling.

If you won't do it for yourself, then do it for your son.

Good luck to you and I hope you feel better soon!
I hope I was some what helpful.

It sounds like you definately have some sort of a anxiety disorder, but whether or not it's OCD or not.. I'm not sure. Do you compulsively count things? or, do you always have to wash your hands a certain number of times? that would be something that someone with OCD would do. I'd strongly recommend going to get a prescription fill ASAP! maybe you could call a friend, and they could go to the pharmacy for you..? good luck!

All the fears you describe are legitimate, and after giving child birth, it is even more understandable. If meds helped you cope, then by all means take them. Talk to a doctor about a chemical imbalance, they have different drugs for that, and then maybe you could wean yourself off Prozac. I am not a professional, so please talk to a doctor who will be sympathetic to your problems. Congratulations on having a new baby, God bless!

Maybe having a baby has opened up some issues for you .. having someone small and helpless to protect might have made you feel inadequate or brought up fears and worries about not being able to control external circumstances?

Just a thought.
