I mean, I don't believe in Harry Potter, but I don't go around hating him and calling him names.
Seriously, if you don't believe in God, why do you spend so much time hating him, and the people that do believe?

You are right,... not all of them.
I didn't mean to generalize.

Atheists don't hate God; they don't believe such an entity exists, so hating it would be an absurdity.
What they have a problem with, in my view ("hate" is too strong a word), is the attitude of theists who preach at them, calling them fools, or blind, or spiritually dead, and threaten them with dire consequences if said atheists don't exchange their axiom set for the theist's own. (Worse are those theists for whom proverbial justice can't come soon enough, and threaten dire consequences upon people in *this* life.)
If all theists were content to follow whatever beliefs they may have and not attempt to proselytize to non-believers, atheists would merely consider theism an idle curiosity. As it is, however, theism is seen by some atheists as a dark, sinister, divisive and ultimately destructive force in society. (c.f. Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins.)
A question back at you. Why should atheists respect a monotheist's belief-system, when their belief system *by definition* does not respect atheism?

Ahem!! Excuse me?
Why are you generalising ALL Atheists?
I am an Atheist and although I don't believe in God I still have morals and beliefs... One of them is not to judge others for theirs!!
As a non believer I get incredibly offended when I get personal e-mails sent to me from Christians telling me that I have to believe in God or I won't go to heaven. I have to believe that God made the world what it is etc and I also get extremely frustrated when people use God to literally rule their lives.
Being offended or frustrated with these people doesn't mean I hate them, it means I have a difference of opinion and I don't appreciate others forcing their opinion on to me when I haven't asked for them.
Hate is an extremely strong emotion and as yet I have NEVER had any cause to use it.
Please don't continue going through life labelling everyone with the same tag, just because you have had a bad experience with a few!

Well, ask yourself why Christians hate evolutionist and you've got yourself an answer. To me, when I hear someone speak about Jesus, I get offended. To me, the idea that someone could believe in something completely by faith is illogical. I believe in science because we all try to work together to figure out things about the universe based upon what we know for sure. Yes, our understanding of science is always changing - does that make it bad? To answer your question plain and simple, differences in beliefs cause tension among Christians and other people.

We're not spending time hating anything.
We're trying to wake up the masses, and get them to come into the 21st century.
Now, you may ask, why do we do this?
Do you realize just how much your religion interferes in my life, every single day? Have you ever considered how badly our media, government, personal relationships, careers, etc, are all absolutely infested with your religion?
Religion is a scourge on society. It causes wars. It causes families to split. It causes couples to split. It holds back our scientific progress, and our medical research. And it drains our wallets by spending tax dollars to fund itself.
It is like a cancer.
And that's why we fight against it. If we don't do something to wake you people up, it's going to destroy us all.
Trust me, if the atheists/agnostics can't bring a stop to the world's ignorance VERY soon, there's going to be another world war. It will be the Christians/Jews vs. the Muslims. And to me, that's a worthy cause to fight against.

we don't hate it, its just like...enough is enough already! its so old school and nothing has even come close to proving that it even exits, whats to say a monk had WAAAAAY too much time on his hands and just made up the Bible, and all of a sudden it gave "hope" to people!! I mean come on..prove it or stop preaching, I live in the Bible belt and trust me the word "God" gets REALLY old REALLY quick, its like a fashion that will never go away..imagine if the 80's clothes stayed around forever, wouldn't it get on your nerves?

Why is "hate" one of the most often used words by Christians?
I'm not aware of any atheists who waste their time expressing an emotional reaction to a non-existent entity.
Amazing how many Christians claim to know so much about a subject with which they are clearly unfamiliar.
"Good question?" A "good question" does not "beg the question."
I did not assert you are a Christian.

I don't believe in god, so I can't hate him. That wouldn't make any sense. I do, however, believe in christians and other theists. They do exist, and many really do take great glee believing that I'm going to be tortured for all eternity in hell. You don't see how this might upset me a little? I don't believe in hell, no, but if you knew someone who was constantly threatening to torture you and your family in horrible ways wouldn't that upset you? Even if you knew they would never actually do it, but you knew they took pleasure in the thought of it, fantasized about it, even, that wouldn't bother you, really?

Ignorance. It's the same reason bigots hate people of other races. They just don't know any better. Hate=fear in my eyes. These people are ignorant cowards. However, there are atheists who do their thing and leave believers alone. Can't group them all together.

lol, hating in god means you still believe in him, even if its just a little bit. i always hate pointing that out to people because they get defensive. after which i say, if it wasn't true you wouldn't be so defensive now would you?
most atheists have no opinion about "god" what we do have an opinion about is religion. how man interprets god.
