When a cat behaves that way, it means that something has upset or scared them very badly. They don't know how to tell you what is wrong, so they pitch a fit.
Whatever you do - don't just give the cat up. A cat that is upset like this and misbehaves will have trouble finding a new home, so most shelters will just put her to sleep.
There are too many possibilities to cover here; there is a cat therapist who has written books that explain how to understand cats and deal with problems you are having with them. Her name is Pam Johnson-Bennett. Search for her name on the Internet to find out all the titles of her books, or search for her as an author in your library's card catalogue.
If you can't afford to buy the books, ask your local library if they have them, or if they can get them on inter-library loan for you.
I hope things work out for you and your cat.

LET HER BE. SHE OBVIOUSLY DOES NOT WANT TO BE BOTHERED. MOST CATS DO NOT LIKE BEING PICKED UP. WHEN SHE WANTS ATTENTION SHE WILL SEEK YOU OUT. AS FOR HER ATTACKS SHE IS PLAYING. SHE DOES NOT KNOW THAT SHE IS BEING TOO ROUGH. USE THE WORD NO! IN A FIRM TONE UNTIL SHE UNDERSTANDS THAT IT IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR. NEVER STRIKE YOUR CAT. YOU WILL MAKE HER EVEN MORE ANTI-SOCIAL. YOUR CAT IS NORMAL SHE IS NOT EVIL. YOU MIGHT WANT TO AVOID LETTING HER OUTSIDE. OR DO IT AT NIGHT WHEN PEOPLE ARE ASLEEP. AS FOR HER TAIL I'M SURE SHE WILL STOP IF SHE HURTS HERSELF. HAVE YOU TAKEN HER TO THE VET AND EXPLAINED THE BEHAVIOR.SHE MIGHT BE TRYING TO TELL YOU SHE IS SICK OR IN PAIN. AFTER ALL CATS CAN'T TALK AND THIS COULD BE HER WAY OF TELLING YOU.ROXX

That's probably just her personality. I have an 8 year old female and she just doesn't like to be touched sometimes. Even if I pet her too much she gets very mad and will bite me. She is also very cuddly with me too though at other times. Maybe your cat is just moody and afraid of other people. Not sure what you could do about it.

maybe you could take her to the vet and go over her behavior with them and ask if she would be a good candidate for an antidepressent/anxiety medication. some animals have to take these kinds of meds. it may help to calm her down so she will be more social. i have a cat that loves me to peices and hates every other cat on the planet, she usually is okay with people she knows though. if she doesn't know them or recognize a voice she hides until they are gone. you may be able to control her behavior with meds, but may also have to live with the fact she's not a people cat.

Take her to the vet-immediately. She's probably in pain or something else is definitely wrong with her. Wrap her up in a towel covered up to her neck so her paws can't get to you when putting her in a carrier. Get someone to help you do this too. Good luck!

Try to get some cat pheromones, my mom had a cat like that and when we took it to the vet they sprayed them on a towel in the room , and he was the calmest I had ever seen him. You can find them online, or call your local vet.

Sounds to me like you need a kitty whisperer. (I also recall a friend of my whose cat went crazy, literally, and died a couple of weeks later. I would take your cat to the vet right away!) Sorry, didn't mean to freak you out, if I did!!!

Is your cat fixed? My friends cat did the same thing but went nuts on her and her kids, scratched their faces, arms legs you name it. She took it to the vet and was told to have it fixed. She did and now they all live in harmony.
Just a hint.

you didn't say if she was fixed...that could be one of the main problems, also my aunts kitten scratches and bites alot and he's not neutered yet, so we know why he's aggressive...try playing with her with toys instead of your hands and if if she does bite or scratch, tap her on the nose and say NO! or use a spray bottle, she'll get the message eventually.
good luck

Sounds like you've got it stuck on "evil". Look for a small switch behind his left ear and turn it GENTLY back to the "good" position.
