If people are going to ignore God's command to not engage in sexual relations with someone of the same sex, then obviously they are likely not to take the very idea of God very seriously.
All of us are sinners, of course, but homosexuality is a big one. It's the type of sin around which many people have built an entire lifestyle.
Most of us don't build an entire lifestyle around a given sin. But homosexuals do; and in so doing, it's no surprise that many of them have abandoned the idea of God's existence altogether.

Odd, most of the gay people are know are deeply religious and belong to various religious communities: Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Baha'i, Paganism, Taoism, Humanism, Native American/Aboriginal Religions. I only know a very small portion of gays who are Atheists. Most of the Atheists I know are heterosexual not homosexual.
So, that said, I do not think that it is because they are so against the concept of God that is their only recourse. For the Atheists I know it is because they have no experience of anything that one could define as God. For them the notion of God and religion is meaningless and they find greater meaning in other areas of their life. Science provides information about the world and they do not seek to go any deeper with that information, generally speaking. They read philosophy like the Greek rationalists and many others and that gives them insight into some of the deeper aspects of life. For the gay people who are Atheists that I've met the seem similar to the majority of heterosexual Atheists I know in their approaches regarding religion and spirituality. It is not that they do not often value religions and their teachings, in fact many I know do have a great deal of respect for the religions and teachings. They often just have difficulty respecting the people who identify with the label who are supposed to be applying the teachings and practicing the religion.
I'm gay and I'm a devoutly practicing Hindu. My beloved is gay (obviously) and he is deeply devoted to practicing his traditional tribal religion. Again, the vast majority of gay people I know are very active in their religious communities and are deeply committed to practicing that religion. I have yet to see any real differences between the homosexual people I know and the heterosexual people I know (other than the obvious, that heterosexuals form opposite-sex unions and homosexuals form same-sex unions). Other than that, the people seem to have the same concerns, the same levels of dedication to their spirituality and religion, even the Atheists seem the same, etc, etc, etc.
Interesting question, though. Perhaps if most the gay people you know are Atheists, then you should ask them. I'm sure that if you meet the many heterosexual Atheists that also exist that you'll find that when you inquire about their reasoning for choosing to be an Atheists (rather than choose to practice a religion) that you'll find the answers from the heterosexual will be very similar to the answers that the homosexual will give you. Atleast that has been my experience.
Peace be with you.

There are so many gay atheists. Most gay atheists turned gay for a reason. They got to close to "god" when they were molested by priests. It is just a result of the world balancing its self. The priests were gay, so they raped boys, this made the boys gay. The christian boys were straight, but after church rape, changed their minds. They also did not want to go to church again, so they became atheists. That is cause and effect. It is a scientific concept, so don't hurt your fragile religious mind (or lack of) by attempting to think about it, this is beyond you. This makes me ask why god would want so many gay priests working for him. Well it is because god must be gay. So the gay atheists are closer to god than the straight Christians. Yes most of us are straight. I have had the blessing of being raised atheist, so I never had to get near a church of your gay god. And for that I am happy. Yet you worship a gay god, that means you must want to be gay. Good luck.

You have chosen to take that view that homosexuals are a certain way because they are Atheists, Agnostic, or believe in something other that Christianity. More likely is the fact that they have certain religious views which are based on their homosexuality, or more, their treatment by others who believe certain views.
The fact of the matter is, Christianity shuns such behavior and personalities. Would you really want to surround yourself with people who tell you that you are wrong, immoral, should change, or that you must your true self from?
Put yourself in another's position once in a while if you want to gain some insight and step away from homophobic views and hatreds.

I'm atheist and I'm not gay, but let me tell you why...because we don't live our life by a little book that tells us what is wrong and what is right, we go by our feelings which i'm afraid are out of our control, it is not wrong to love someone of the same sex and it's not weird it is just how you were born...yet christians have a harder time admitting it because it is shaming their "god" and they will be judged! Atheists are at much more peace with themselves than those who believe in religion..we don't have to ask anybody for our forgivness but ourselves.

Actually, I think the proper question is...
Why are so many gay people atheists?
And the reason why is because gay atheists wouldn't be afraid to say so. The gay Christians, on the other hand, tend to keep it a secret.

I don't think their against the concept of God or God itself. But if I were in their shoes and everyone told me that u will go to hell for being gay. That God can't forgive me for being who I 'am. Well, then I don't think I would want to believe in something that would be against me.

That's like asking why are so many college students drugees? It's placing a whole people group in a single stereotype. I'm a college student and I'm not a drugee. I'm sure there are a TONS of atheists that ARE NOT gay. You need to stop being so closed minded, it's REALLY unattractive.

No, no, no, you have it backwards. First of all, not all atheists are gay nor all gay people atheists. And if a person chooses to be atheist it may have nothing to do with his or her sexuality. IF it does, it is because CHRISTIANS reject homosexuals although God loves everyone. Who would want to belong to a religion that rejects them?

A better question might be "Why are so many gay people atheist or agnostic?"
Speaking as a lesbian and an agnostic, I can tell you that many people in the gay community feel rejected by mainstream religion, and in turn, reject it themselves.
However, there are certainly plenty of religious gay people... my partner is one of them.
And there are certainly plenty of denominations and congregations that welcome gay people.
Like most aspects of this less-than-open society, gay people just have to work a little harder to find their place (assuming they want to fit in).

Yeah because religion is SO straight. All those men wearing dresses, Jesus with his group of men friends, God hating women all the time, the Bible with its' hatred of women, Jesus never having sex with a women, priests screwing alter boys etc.
Yeah not following all that is SO gay. Moron.
