I know that the lights dim when I run my vacuum cleaner. I have a plasma TV in the same room and I'm wondering whether running the vacuum could have any adverse effects on my expensive TV (e.g., ruining it).

If the TV and vaccuum are on the same eletrical line you could blow a fuse and that at times can damage a TV especially if the TV isn't plugged into a surge protector

Good question,
I'd call the manufacturer and ask the same question. Some electrical devices running on too little power. i.e. electric motors can be damaged and the dimming effect you describe is exactly what is going on. It won't wreck a light bulb but a plasma screen is something else. That being said maybe you should leave the TV off so you don't wreck vacuum...LOL
Good luck.

The worst thing that could happen is that you would blow a fuse which actually is what prevents anything bad from occurring to the TV. So the TV will be okay and you'll just need to reset the fuse from the main box. So to answer your question, no, you don't need to turn off the TV. Blowing a fuse will not damage the TV.

Yes. It may blow up and then you have no TV!

Would you like to suck your tv into your vaccuum?, is the question.
