I would definitely recruit from Home Depot over Walmart any day. Walmart shoppers are by definition lazy and possibly have a statistically significant lower collective IQ than shoppers at other stores. Every good cult is going to need creative, intelligent people who are good with their hands, who show some initiative (but not too much!), and know more about plumbing than I do. I think I'd find a few good devotees at Home Depot. A Walmart shopper would most likely not be able to provide me with a new roof, storm door, in-sink-erator, or skylight, whereas these would be no-brainers for your average Home Depot guy or gal. I hope this helps! Let me know if you actually have any luck with devotees from Walmart. Perhaps I'm limiting my options too much.

Home Depot-- chances are they can already work with their hands to build the barracks and sleeping bunks I'll need for my followers. They'd also probably drive dope SUV's and trucks that I could wreck $h!t with or sell for more money than the Geo Metros and beige Buick Regals you find at any given Wal-Mart.
And most Home Depot shoppers are fat white men that my followers could eat if necessary. Get all those bony, gaunt-faced Wal-Mart b!tches out of my face, yo. You gotta really eat if you wanna worship this.

Easy choice. Walmart. If they're shopping at home depot it's a good bet that they care about their home, of course, and will be less likely to give it up to me so I can sell it and they can come live on the commune.

I'd start with Whole Foods and other organic/healthy/new age kind of shops. Walmart customers are too poor, and Home Depot ones are too rational.

Of those two, Walmart because they are more addicted and compulsive. But I think for a real dedicated cult, recruit from Yahoo! posters.

walmart, because they're dumber and more gullible for buying cheap plastic crap where as home depot shoppers are at least kinda smart for going somewhere that sells quality products

Walmart.
Walmart shoppers cannot think beyond their immediate self interest so it should be easier to persuade them to believe you are God. People who shop at Home Depot would seemingly be able to think beyond the immediate.

Wal-Mart. Home depot shoppers would ask too many questions.
