Every conquered person usually takes the religion of their conquerors. Christianity was forced upon blacks as it was upon countless other conquered people but now there is a huge underground Black Muslim movement that is growing day by day. I truthfully don't know what some blacks are Christians but it's just like most Bosnians are Muslim (conquered by Turks and forcibly converted to Islam) and most Russian people are Russian Orthodox (forcibly converted by Prince Vladimir because he thought the Hagia Sofia was beautiful).

The reign of the white male protestant is over; in fact there is not one former slave still alive today from the bad old days before women got the right to vote, before electricity, before two world wars, before nuclear power and the space program. Never forget that along with black people, the white male protestants who ran this country also persecuted Catholics, Jews, Native Americans, women, and just about every other immigrant and ethnic group there was. You are talking about a very very small percentage of white male protestants who did this, so as long as you aren't playing the race card, I won't play the catholic immigrant card. After all, Harlem was am Irish ghetto first. The white protestant males who inflicted this on so many people of varying genders, colors, creeds, and races were totally wrong, unchristian hypocrites.
Together let's agree that tolerance, an end to ignorance, and equality/equal opportunity remain the unarchived goals, but goals that enlightened people are working towards. Peace.

That's an interesting question. One so complicated IMO that I'll only know the answer when I meet Him. One of the several questions I'll have to ask him along with "Who shot Kennedy?"
I also agree with the comments above. There were real Christians and pretenders. Slavery was a very unchristian institution. The logic and reasoning used back when to defend slavery is pretty much the same people use today to defend infanticide. Dehumanizing Negroes. Dehumanizing unborn children. Instead of learning from our mistakes history once again unfortunately repeats itself

Black...doubt it
To answer your question, slave traders were in it for the money NOT to save souls. That was just a red herring to cover up the fact they were getting rich on my african ancestors. Those that were literate and read the Bible knew for a fact that the Bible did not say that those with dark skin should be slaves and always remain as such.

Actually, I don't think it was the slave traders who brought us Christianity. Rather, it was the missionaries -- often against the objections of the slave traders -- who brought us Christianity and insisted that we were human beings with souls.
At some point, someone in my family was brought to Cuba, and somewhere along the way, people in my family were baptized Catholic -- which is one reason why I and my whole family are Catholic today.

I found God for myself not by whitey! The ones who enslaved blacks weren't true Christians they were probably agnostics or atheist! The man made evolution crap started this! This evolution theory is what started RACISM! White,so called Christians, are racist against Jews and blacks and even enslaved Jews. Jesus was a Jew therefore I' m thankful For Jesus not whites! They forced their man made religion on slaves without true knowledge of God and a personal relationship. They straddle the fence and compromise with sin and sinners. They didn't do me any favors but they are on their way to Hell for what they have done to Blacks in general! Slavery was and is an abomination to all races! White people and others who embraced slavery will have their day of slavery and some of them are already in bondage of the mind!

My guess is that a black Christian would feel the same about slavery (as in the slavery that occured in the US) that a black athiest would - not fond of it at all.
As a white Christian, I ain't too fond of it either, a bit ashamed, but very happy that my friends of color are here - regardless of how their ancestors got here.

Probably the same as any slave would! Have you asked the Jews about being slaves to the Egyptians? It's all the same.

I'm being mean today,so here goes:
I can't really help you with your question, but great question. I was born Catholic and seeing as how the church doesn't give a patootie abt Africa and S.America, does that count? I'm black AND I HATE church with a vengeance and not because of the slavery thing. I just think the clergy interpretes the whole Christian thing the wrong way and for their own means
