I have a family movie and I need editing it.

it is 99.99 but there is a place where u get the code for free i think e-mail me at austin_penguin@yahoo.com but u still the cd
it is really easy to use but u need a firewire cord and a camcorder that has a DV area (i think)
i have it and u can change different types of frames and speed or slow down
i've heard that Windows Movie Maker has a lot of problems for beginning users

On a mac use Final Cut Pro (whatever the latest vers is) but that is a little advanced but easy to figure out the simple things you can do -- this you have to buy, so IMovie works well too (I saw a movie made from this program and it was amazing). For windows, windows movie maker is ok but you will be limited to what you can do. If you are willing to pay money, then go to download.com and see what you can find.

Adobe Premiere.
If you can't use that, use Windows Movie Maker.
