You can teach a baby to swim as early as you want. The PROBLEM though is you can't feel too secure because if they fall into water, they could still panic and drown. I think it's a great idea to get them used to the water as soon as possible but at the same time, don't depend on them swimming. Never leave children alone in or near water. There are infant lessons too.

Toss the bugger in and find out. Girls learn faster because of a genetic predisposition towards flotation. Boys sink, but have periscope attributes that allows them to breath underwater to a depth of 5 inches or less. If the baby both floats and ups pariscope at the same time, what you've got there is a bi-baby, but it may go away after a few years.

a newborn can swim the day its born, i'm serious, you can just toss it in the water and it will start swimming, what do you think its been doing for the past 9 mo, they hold their breath and everything, the reason why you have to teach them again is cuz ppl wait cuz they don't know they can swim so young and by then the babies forget and have to learn it all over again

My daughter could swim on her own at 18 months. As anything it depends on the child and there is no hard fast rule. Check with the local YMCA in your area I am sure they have lessons for all ages.

Babies swim from a young age, it is us parents that build a fear of water into them. Children love water, and let them experience it as soon as possible. I would say from 6to8 months should be fine. I put my daughter when she was 3,a nd i regret fro not starting her lessons earlier.

Infants instinctually know how to swim from birth, but they must relearn at about 2 years old.
