I know it varies for each wedding, but for a professional, what's the range for their annual salary?

Many photographers dont' have annual salaries. Most are based on the number of jobs they get during the year. My father is a photographer and he's booked for 6-8 months already. Most parties, weddings, sweet sixteens happen during weekends so they get pretty booked up in advance.

Depending on the job price ranges for each weddings/parties are estimated:
Weddings - $2500 - $8,000
Sweet Sixteens - $1500 - $6000
Anniversaries $2500 - $8000

You can't make a good living on just wedding photography alone. Well, there are one or two who make $10,000 / wedding. But most of us don't do that.

Wedding photographers (such as myself) create packages that are offered to the bride and groom. This makes things a little bit easier to figure out from a financial stand point.

I started off photographing weddings for as low as $300 with only a few years of expereience. My packages went as high as $750. But now, after more experience, certifications and more professional education, I'll charge anywhere from $1250 - $5000.

These prices have to refelct
1) How valuable I feel I'm worth
2) How valuable I feel my time is worth
3) Cost for materials needed for package (proofs, albums, DVD's, etc)

My prices also include extra to pay for repairs and any additional materials I plan on purchasing for future use.

So, assuming someone buys my lowest package you are looking at around $156 / hr. But then after you take out my time, any albums, proofs, etc it's quite a bit lower than that.

Not much if the photographer is working for someone else. I have worked for a crappy studio here in Naperville, Illinois, and the jerk was paying $300. per wedding. I had to pay my own gas (the weddings were never close to me). I had to have my own equipment AND backup equipment, I AND had to work a minimum of 10 hour days. I also had to pay my own taxes! At the end of the day, I made about $175. for a 10 hour day, exhausted, and only to get treated like crap by the studio owner. I strongly suggest if you are going to shoot weddings, START YOUR OWN BUSINESS if you want DECENT financial compensation. Studios are CHEAP and want CHEAP help with state of the art equipment!
Good luck
