Try warming the solution in the microwave for about 10-20 seconds, shake it well, test it on your wrist to make sure it isn't hot. The gently put it in her ear and then gently rub the base of the ear to help work it in..

You shouldn't get so upset with your dog, how would you like something cold being squirted in your ear without knowing about it first?

Make it a good experience for your dog, comfortable. And talk to her, tell her what you are doing, she might not have a clue what your saying, but number 1 it gives you something soothing to say, and 2 it will help calm her.

You can also have someone hold her head for you.. However, I can do all my dogs alone and hold the head still with 1 hand while cleaning the ear.. It take patience, and practice.

NOW, if she has build up in the ear, your vets office can have one of the techs give her a good cleaning and they do enjoy it..

PS: I use "q-tips" all the time, I get them from MY VET..LOL.. Even they and the dog groomers use them. It is an old wives tale that you can hurt the hear drum..Maybe if you rammed it in there , but not gently twisting it into the ear canal.

People should not use them because our canals are smaller and we end up pushing the wax in deeper... Not so with dogs..

Stick the tip of the squeeze bottle as far down into the ear as you can, but dont force it hard of course. It is not going to hurt a thing, I do it weekly to my lab because he is always in the water. I was told to do this by my vet. A dogs ear canal is very deep compared with humans, so you will not hurt him/her. Give the bottle a good squeeze and gently pull on the outside of the ear to distribute the solution inside the ear. Then clean out with a q tip. If your dog will not hold still and freaks out then his/her ear is probably hurting. Make sure you take your dog to the vet first to make sure it is just wax and not some other problem. If its not serious, get someone to help you hold your dog while you clean his ears. Give him a treat afterwards, he will get over it.

I'm hoping this is a proper cleaner, designed for dogs? make sure you follow the instructions properly or you can damage the dogs ears

I find the best way to get a dog to co-operate with uncomfortable things is NOT to grab them or hold them still, this usualy just upsets the dog and makes them try and fight you, try scratching the dog behind the ear with one hand then try and aply the cleaning stuff with the other, and do it quick so the dog doesnt have a chance to struggle or run off. If the dog is already nervous around the sight of the studd you can try putting in something else, or if thats not practical just leave it around so the dog can see it, and hold it while you pet the dog, don't try and use it just hold it so the dog gets used to the sight of it

Please don't squirt anything into your dogs ears. I know I would hate that, and dogs have very sensitive ears! The easiest best method I know is from Leerburg.com's training video "Your Puppy 8 weeks to 8 months". Use a cotton ball (not Q-tips) dipped in Hydrogen Peroxide and gently cleanse the inside of the dogs ears without going too deep.

Do not use a Q tip on the dog. If he's that wiggley then you risk puncturing the ear drum.
I have lg dogs also and they don't like there ears cleaned either.
Do you routinely clean the ears or are they dirty? If they are not dirty, then don't clean. If you are seeing a lot of black gunk, all the time, then you might have a ear problem that a vet should check.

Do NOT squirt it into her ear! Put some on a Q-tip and GENTLY clean the crevasses in her ears without going too deep. Squitring it directly into her ear could cause damage to her ears.
You could also try reading the directions on the bottle, it will tell you the same thing.

Do not squirt it in the ear. Put it on a cotton ball and twist it around in the ear.

Never stick a q-tip down into the ear.

This method was given by our vet.

Sqirt the ear cleaner on a cotton ball or tissue paper and put your finger in your dogs ear and rub... my dogs usually resist at first, but it helps if I lay them on their side and pet them and get them calm and then do it. After mine are calm they actually enjoy it. They lay there and close their eyes.

Oh yeah, and what makes it easier is if their head is on a couch edge or a pillow to lift their head up a little.

You made me giggle when I read this question............. If you get an idea, I'd LOVE to know, I have huge dogs myself and needless to say, they have dirty ears LOL

Maybe we should try the cleaner on Q-Tips?
