Has anyone tried the C-PAP Pro mask for sleep apnea? Is it worth the money to buy it? Is it comfortable and do you get a good restful night's sleep with it?

The pro mask is probably one of the better masks out there, but I would highly recommend going to a medical supply store that carries CPAP equipment to try some of the different masks on.

CPAP is difficult for a lot of people to get used to, but it's not impossible. Part of it is trying to breathe against the airflow - which is sometimes similar to sticking your head out the window at 50 miles an hour. If you can get over the initial airflow, then you'll be able to sleep (possibly better) as you did before. One feature that you should check on your machine is to see if there is a "ramp". You can set a lower pressure (or airflow) that will gradually increase over the number of minutes you select.

Most insurance companies now cover DMEs (durable medical equipment), so check with your insurance to see if they will cover the Pro Mask - some will. But the best thing to do is try on different masks to see which one is right for you.

Good luck.

It works very well for some people. However, my father could not sleep with it at all. He tried all the special attachments (humidifier, heater, mouthpiece) and nothing worked for him. His apnea is VERY severe, so he ended up having the jaw surgery, which worked wonders, although he still has slight apnea. He has several friends that love CPAP though. Maybe find out if there is some way you can do a trial run to see if it bothers you. Also, they are quite loud, and may bother your sleeping partner, if you have one. But probably not as much as the infamous sleep apnea snoring! ;) Best of luck.

I actually have sleep apnea and it almost killed me due to severe sleep deprivation....ALWAYS get diagnosed through a sleep center first and YES if you need it the C-PAP is definitely worth it!!!!!!! It will take some getting used to at first but if you have sleep apnea you are NOT sleeping anyway...so of course you will finally get a good night's rest.

You'll have to spend a night wired up at a sleep clinic. Where they determine the problem and vary the sttings on the machine during the night. The optimul settings are written into the prescription for the machine.
It works, it saved my life. I was sleeping 12 nights and waking up exhausted. I was on the road to a fatal heart attack.
I used the C.P.A.P. device and got used to it the first night. I had to, there was no alternative. So I primed my mind to accept it .
Ear plugs helped me for about a month. Then I didn't need them anymore. The machine is a life saver.

You should be referred to a sleep apnea clinic. There are several different treatments for snoring and they would be able to advise you on the one that is most suitable for you.
