I'm taking some friends with me on a trip in a few weeks, they have never been out of the country, so they didn't have any passports. We ordered them and didn't expedite them, we had all four in about 3 weeks, maybe less.

If you have everything that you needed and filled it out properly, you should be fine. If something was missing or wasn't fillled out, then you could be in trouble. You can always call and have it expedited if you get too close. I think you would be safer to expedite.

The thing you want to do is put your trip dates as the closest date you can before they require you to expedite the process. So if you are going in two months, put down 1 month because they are really behind with processing and it is taking longer than normal. They look at the dates and try to get them out accordingly. Just keep an eye on the progress of your application, if it gets too close, you may want to have it expedited.

Mine took six weeks plus a couple of days. You can check on your passport at http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/status/status_2567.html. You might check to see if the post office can expedite service. Good luck & have fun!

Chances are you'll have it in two. They have a pretty quick turn around time. They just want to make more money by telling you that you need to expedite it.

I think we got ours like 1-2 weeks after we ordered it.

Mine only took a couple of weeks - but it depends on the load at your processing office.

that's why it pays to kind of have a passport all the time... even when you think you might not need it... as an American living outside of the US, it is relatively necessary for me to have one anyways... so good luck...

I've had two and they've both come in under 4 weeks.

You can always go to the local consulate and stand in line.
