I actually respect everyone's point of view, including atheists, though I believe in 1 God. I just find this strange.

As much as they hate to admit it, there may be some truth to your assumption that --YES-- some of them may be "closet believers" who, on the outside, make it appear that they loathe the object of their desire...

Personally, I imagine that in its most precise and TRUEST form of defining what an Atheist is, such a person would have NO DESIRE or INKLING whatsoever of getting involved in things and topics pertaining to Religion or any references to ANY GOD/s...

But maybe that's just me and I could be wrong.

Peace be with you!

Believe me, if things were different we would not need to focus on "religious issues."

However, we live in a world where certain people's religious beliefs stand in the way of basic human rights for gay people, stem-cell research that can ease the suffering of millions, a woman's right to make decisions regarding her own body, and currently have us involved in an unjust war.

If being faithful were just a matter of believing what one wants to believe, you would never hear from us. Sadly some people think that their faith is a license to behave abominably towards others, to step on other's rights, and spew venom at the drop of a hat.

Faith and politics are wrapped up pretty tight these days and it not the atheists' fault.

I myself am an atheist. Focusing on religious issues doesn't mean that I am religious in any way. It simply means that I am trying to prove people wrong. We simply like to argue about how people believe in something with so many holes in their religion.

no they are not, they are like a tourist who observes a native counting ants on an ant hill, they are annoyed by the lack of wit and are enraged to correct the mental retardation they have observed. they know the skeletons of religion that are in the middle east, and they know the brains of religion that have flashy cars and have immoral incests seen preaching many a night. they know the mouth of religion that has supported racism and slavery and they know the whip of condemnation and hipocricy that smells like a skunk in the white house

It's not the athiests focusing on it, it's the religious nutjobs who shove it down their throats.
