"Many people throughout history have believed that if a dog’s nose is dry, then the pet is sick. They thought that the main sign of a healthy dog is a good wet, sloppy nose. This simply is not true. A wet nose simply means that the air is plenty humid. Just like anything else, when it’s humid outside, your dog’s nose gets wet. If the weather is overly dry, so will be your dog’s nose.
The simple way to find out if your dog has a healthy nose is to see if your dog’s nose is the color it usually is. There are other ways that have been said to determine if your dog is healthy by looking at your dog’s nose, but these myths have been misproven.
You know what color your dog’s nose is supposed to be. If you notice it’s not the right color, that may not just mean there’s something wrong with its nose, but it could mean your dog has a more serious health problem of some sort. If your dog’s nose changes colors even slightly, you should take it to your vet to make sure it’s okay."

Learning to observe what is normal and and what is not in animals that can't talk takes time and patience. The purpose of this FAQ is to serve as a basic guideline to know when to consult your vet to see if an examination is in order.
A. There isn't a clear cut answer for this question. A dog's (or cat's) nose may be very wet and cool one moment then be warmer and not-so-moist the next. All in the course of a day.
However, prolonged dry, cracked nose, particularly with loss of pigmentation, scabs or open sores should definitely be examined by your veterinarian. An ill animal will often have a warm, dry nose, and there are a host of dermatological (skin) problems that can be seen in this area, such as Pemphigus Foliaceus.
One other note of caution: dogs, cats, horses, and other species are prone to sunburn (also known as "solar dermatitis") and subsequent skin cancer on noses, ear tips, and around eyes.
Light coated, pink-nosed animals are at greatest risk. Check with your veterinarian about providing sun protection for your pet if they are in this category of risk.

Yes. When an animals nose is dry that is the first indication they they are sick or not feeling well. Check and see if your dog is eating or drinking. Sometimes if it is really hot out a dog might not be handling it so well. The best thing to do is call your vets office and get your dog checked out. I hope all is well with your dog.

Usually not. A dog's nose may be dry because of drier weather, a hot day, or from not drinking much water that day. However if the dog's nose is dry AND cracked, or flaky, or changes color, it may be ill and should be checked out.

Dogs' and cats' noses get dry for three reasons. 1) they were sleeping, so they weren't licking their noses. 2) They're dehidrated, so they don't leave any moisture when they lick. OR 3) they're sick, and don't feel like licking. Give it a day or two and give your dog lots of water, to rule out 1, 2, and something small like a mild cold or stomachache, then have your dog checked out if he/she isn't better.

yes, dog noses are supposed to be wet but not too wet and not dry either. You should have it checked by a vet before it gets worse if it is serious.

Not neccessarily... But you may want to moisturize it with some vaseline or something similar if it gets too dry. Some breeds of dogs can have trouble reaching their noses to moisturize them themselves...
If your dog has other "symptoms", though, it would be wise to get him/her checked out. As stated above...
Very general advice, I know. Sorry.
