Either tied off with ropes/cables etc. It depends on the grade of slope and hazards such as falling rocks, slides etc. It can be quite dangerous so get the proper training before attempting such activities. I took a repelling course with the transportation dept. to dislodge hazards that could fall on the roads. It is very dangerous so beware.

Since this is in the cars safety questions.....I'm assuming your talking about parking a vehicle on a sloped surface and working from it...........turn the steering wheel toward an area where the vehicle can safely run off if it does roll.....emergency brakes to hold it in place....and safety chocks under the rear wheels.....hope this helps some.
