Why would ANYONE spend that much on a child's toy that is 5 yrs old? Are you nuts.... Not only will the child not understand the proper way to care for something, overall, but it will be so out of fashion in 6 months. If you insist on spending 100 or less, how about a savings bond? Start up the tradition so that when she is grown she will have something to help with college, car, prom, something she will appreciate and can really use.
Then just get her something to play with, or something for her room, picture, something inexpensive.
If she honestly said to a gift; " I don't like this,", or I don't want this" then someone needs to teach that child about what gratitude and appreciation is before she grows up to be a spoiled, ungrateful brat...

She sound very very spoiled. Yikes, she is 5! Her parents should be instilling in her that you say thank you when you are given a gift. She is old enough to understand the concept of hurting someones feelings. Her parent's are on the wrong track with this kid. I've raised 4 and I would be appalled if they opened a present and told the person it wasn't what the wanted! Even at 5! So my answer in what to get her would be a new attitude.

she sounds kinda spoiled...u could get one of those "sponsor-a-child" memberships 4 her to show how SOME children her age would b grateful 4 a loaf of bread...nip it in the bud! lol but seriously, there's LOTS of stuff u can get. especially if she likes a certain tv show, products like toys or games based on the character should work and usually cost $50 or less.

Get her something that will stimulate her imagination. Something that she can use to create something:
Lego's, Building Blocks, Play-Dough, Puzzles, Crayons or water colors, a blank book to write in, an interactive game,
