Your recipe sounds a lot like my recipe for Texas Beef and Bean bake. My aunt makes it , it has a touch of sweetness to it. It is to die for! And yes, you don't forget this one...lol
Here is the recipe:
1 can (16oz) pork and beans
1 can (16oz) butter beans (lima beans)
1 can (16oz) pinto beans
8 slices bacon, cooked crisp, crumbled
1 pound lean ground beef
1 chopped onion
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
1 1/2 cups ketchup
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup white sugar
Brown the ground beef with chopped onion. Combine all ingredients, except bacon, in a large casserole dish. Top with the crumbled bacon. Bake at 350 degrees F for about 1 hour
This HAS to be it because nothing tastes quite as good as this casserole. I haven't had it in a while but I haven't forgot it.

This was a recipe that came from my son's cub scouts - years ago, but it has remained a camping favorite (similar to a couple of those above):
Ground Beef (1lb)
Onion (1 med)
Pork-n-Beans (med can)
Brown Sugar
Ketchup
Brown beef with Onion & some salt & pepper. Drain off grease if necessary. Add Beans (with juice, do not drain) -- Add just enough sugar & ketchup to taste.
It is hard to say how much of each, because we made POTS of this and it was to taste.
