Tell him/her that babies grow in mommy's belly for nine months, and then they come out. Probably not necessary to tell how the baby got in there until your child asks. But if s/he is ready to hear it, s/he will ask, and then you'll have to explain, possibly with the aid of a book with appropriate illustrations, how it happens.

You can start by explaining that men have one kind of seed (sperm), women have another (eggs), that what happens is that a (future) daddy leaves his seed inside a (future) mommy's body, and the two seeds get together, and then grow and grow and grow until a baby comes out.

If the child asks exactly how it works, then you do have to explain male and female plumbing in detail. Use correct anatomical names to describe the organs in question; the organs can also of course have "nicknames".

Particularly with a girl, you have to be very careful to present this information in a positive light, so that she won't be grossed out (I myself wasn't, but I've heard from some of my female friends that they were the first time they heard). Now is the time to start thinking about how to do that...

It really depends on the age of the child. I've always been guided by the idea that you answer the question from the point of view and maturity within which it was asked. My almost 7 year old son recently asked me this very question (again), and I gave him an updated answer that respected the question and reflected his understanding. I did not need to get into any graphic detail, but I answered it as thoroughly as possible without introducing more information than he needs.

This may be a bit of a tangent, but I think it is appropo.
I once took an art class, and the teacher said to draw what you see, not what you think you see.

So, answer what was asked, not what you think was asked.
Good Luck ~

depends on their age and where you are at when they ask, i would say 8 or 9 is an appropriate time to give them some information, not all, but enough so they understand. and location wise, like if they ask while you are in the grocery store, simply say that you will tell them when you get home or something along those lines. remember, nowadays, with all the sex on tv and in movies, they will find out one way or another, and i think its better to find out from the parents, that way you can be sure their knowledge of the subject is accurate

Depends on the age of the child asking. No way to answer this without understanding how old a child/how mature/immature a child we are speaking about.

It depends on how old the child is. Don't lie, of course (the stork doesn't need to be brought into it), but if the child is young don't go into details ("They come from mommies and daddies"). The older the child, the more detail you can get into. Good luck. :)

Tell them that Mommy and Daddy are both needed to make a baby, and that they grow in your tummy. Simple answers--don't make it too hard (they aren't looking for complicated answers).

Think of the childs age and what they can understand. Start with, "from mommies tummy"...if they need more information, they'll ask for it. Keep your answers simple, no graphics.

Just tell them the truth, because they will know the truth. If you can't
tell them, someone else will. It's better if you tell them the truth, because they need your thrust.

tell the child the truth. You don't have to be graphic, or technical, but you also don't want to confuse the child.
