Look for higher megapixal and you figure the zoom you want.
B/W photos are easy enought on a digital camers due to it being keept in a digital format. I take mine in color and do editing on the computer via software. rember dont edit the original make a copy and edit away.
with digital you can take somany shots and edit them right then and there if you like. I use an Olympus UZI its old and I'm looking to get an new Cannon SRL. Good luck and happy Photo taking.

Try one of the older models, because the newer cameras are more expensive and filled with functions that you really would have no use for. Try getting a standard Yashika or a Holga, they're easy to come by and give you a lot of flexibility with aperture settings while still being easy to use and it gives great results (of course it's only b/w shots as far I know that can be taken with it).

Canon cameras have a great rep. I don't know how serious a camera you are looking for, but I take photos casually (but often) and the Canon Elph PowerShot works great for me. It can do B&W, sepia tones, etc.

In Digital Cameras, 'canon' brand has been getting good user and expert reviews.
similary, the 'kodak' easyshare line has been getting good 'user' reviews though they rate below the 'canon' brand in expert reviews.

I have been researching one camera for myself and recently bought the kodak easyshare v530 for around $160.
