I recommend that you download and install PDFCreator from the web page below.

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=57796&package_id=53473&release_id=425596

Download one of the two top files in the table (by clicking on one and then choosing, from the next page, the location you wish to download it from).

This program is open source and you do not have to purchase it or pay to register it (but you will have to abide by its license agreement). It installs on your computer as a virtual printer, so it will allow you to convert pretty much any file into portable document format (PDF). Simply choose to print the file through whatever program you have it opened in, select PDFCreator as your printer, and print. Note that you may want to change some of PDFCreator's settings, such as paper size, before printing. Once PDFCreator is ready to produce your document, you will be asked to enter information about the document (e.g. its title and the author's name) and choose a name for the PDF file that will be created. Once done, you should have your document in PDF, saved where you chose to save it.

PDFCreator lets you tweak a lot of settings for the PDF files that it creates (e.g. set passwords for editing and/or opening the created PDF files). You can adjust these through its main settings (which can be accessed through the its Start Menu group or the Options button that will be available on PDFCreator’s print dialog box, just before saving your PDF file). The program is nowhere as good as Adobe Acrobat in terms of capability and quality, but it will always beat Adobe Acrobat on price. Can't beat free!

You can save PDF files directly from Illustrator if you are using 9.0 or later. File > Save As.

However you can't create multi-page documents in Illustrator....although you can create a very large file which you then tile on output (meaning it cuts up the large page into multiple small ones, similarly to what you would get if printing.

You would need to save each page and create one PDF with Adobe Creator or freeware like Cute PDF http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp

you can't. you need to have Adobe Acrobat (not Adobe Acrobat Reader, take note). then it will appear as one of the printer output options, and you can just ptint to it like any other physical printer...
