Huh? They'll do whatever they can to help you, but they can't have you move into their office - you have to go home. If you choose not to take their advice or their help, they can't do anything else for you. . .

They only send you home if there is nothing they can do or if you have tried everything you are comfortable trying. Like the common cold many cancers simply have nothing that can be done to help, other than pain medicine. Other forms are opertable or treatable. This is why there is extensive on going research into cancers and cancer treatments.

Usually the cancer has moved past the helping stage. Hospice is a wonderful organization the helps people into the next stage.

I agree with Jez as cancer is infinitely complicated involving DNA, amino acids, mutations, proteins etc. and we don't know everything yet about how it works or there would probably be a cure or medicine to prevent it in the first place.

What would you like them to do? Oh they can give you "quality time". But I suspect that after seeing a couple of friends and relatives in the "quality time" stages it doesn't quite appear to fit that description.
If you have cancer....sorry. I doubt we'll see any cure in any of our life times.

That's not true.
They recommended treatment options and you have to make the informed decision about which path to take.
Although there is no cure, there is treatment.
