my daughter is 10 months old and has always had trouble going poo off and on, right now she is on half formula and half 2 percent milk. she will only be on the bottle for 2 more months, she is having a lot of trouble with hard stools, is there anything to help her go, or anything to make her belly better?

i've tried prune juice, doctor said half milk was fine, when she took all formula, she still had problems, she's now on syrup in the bottle but not really helping.

OOooh poor baby my daughter just got over this...
1) Offer your child plenty of fluids every day as part of a healthy diet. Fluids that are high in sugar e.g. fizzy drinks, cordials and fruit nectars should be avoided as sugary drinks can use up more fluid than they replace.
2) If the baby is eating solid foods it may help to give them broths and soups to increase the fluid intake and help to soften hard, dry stools.
3) The baby's diet should be low in fats which slow the passage of food through the digestive system and can lead to a build-up of waste matter in the colon.
4) Foods that have natural laxative properties such as figs, prunes (and prune juice), apricots and rhubarb can be included in the diet to help soften the baby's stools. These fruits can be pureed in a blender with a little fruit juice or water to make them easier for the baby to eat.
I also asked some of the nurses here at work...just a note if you ever get the opposite experience (diarrhea) try the BRAT diet. Good luck!

Generally it is not recommended to have your baby on cow's milk until she is one year old and then it should be only whole milk until she is at least 2. Dairy products can cause constipation. Your daughter should be drinking about 24 ounces of formula per day at her age. If she is drinking more than that, you may want to try backing off on the bottles and increasing the amount of solids in her diet. She is old enough to drink from a sippy cup and you can start weaning her from the bottle anytime. Prune juice usually works well, but sometimes little ones will not drink it. Dilute it at least 1/2 and 1/2 with water or even try 1/4 juice to 3/4 water to start. Try avoiding some of the foods that make stools firm, such as bananas, white flour products, and cheese (which she shouldn't have until age 1). If she is eating rice cereal for breakfast still, try switching her to oatmeal. Whole-grain Cheerios, crackers, and toast are good as are lots of fruits. She can eat bite-size pieces of canned pears, peaches, apricots, and plums or already prepared jarred baby food if she prefers that. Prepared baby food peas are also good for easing constipation. When her belly is aching, try putting her on her back and moving her legs in a quick "bicycling" motion. This can actually be quite fun especially if you either make up a silly bike riding song or "The Wheels on the Bus" works well, too. Sips of water from a real cup (held by you or another big person) can increase her water intake plus give her practice drinking.

Increase fibre in her food. Give more peas and green beans . Prune and white grape juice also works.
My son had the same problem and is better now. He was having more milk and that was the reason for hard stools...I decreased the quantity and replaced it with solids and it helped. Babies at her age should be having milk between 18-24 oz/day max and rest solids.
Try it..I hope it works for your daughter.

It is important that you balance the milk (protein) in her diet with plenty of fiber, fruits and veggies. At 10 months, she should be eating from a spoon. Milk will cause constipation. These days kids are not getting enough fruits and veggies in their diets. Try to stay away from processed foods. A balanced diet will help immensly. Talk to your pediatrician for more information on a healthy diet for your infant.
Here is a quote from a pediatric site:
"At 10 months babies should still be drinking either breast milk or infant formula, usually between 16 and 30 ounces daily. They may be eating baby food or soft table foods, 3 to 4 times per day. The amounts vary quite a lot. They should have a varied diet of meats, vegetables, fruits and cereals."

Corn syrup with water, prune juice dilluted with water and pushing your babys legs back to help pass bowels are helpful.
Also start if you havent already add more fiber to your babys diet.
I think you just make the switch to milk, both formula and milk is confusing the baby's digestive acids. another way is take milk out of the equation and replace a bottle of formula with a bottle of water until you flush your babies system then make the transition with whole milk. just make sure the baby is eating solid food to replace the nourishment the formula provides.

Ok, this one will be a little graphic. My son would get backed up all the time when he was just on formula and such. We did all the little remedies that we knew, doc gave him meds and everything. Eventually, what I had to do was this: Take some of her baby soap, and some warm water, mix it up. Then, take a bulb syringe (one you won't use anymore) and squirt the tiniest bit of the soapy water up her bum. This is what the pediatrician eventually told me to do after nothing else worked. Worked like a charm. Good luck with the baby, I only gave a suggestion, talk to your childs doc to see what would be best for her.

i dont think your daughter should be drinking any milk right now...stick to ALL formula...milk is very hard to digest and she is not ready for it. when she is 1 yr switch to homo milk she needs the fat in it. but NOT RIGHT NOW. to help her now...give her diluted apple juice.... also try to give her tummy massage. following the large intestine from the lower left side up under her ribs and down the right...also have her nap and sleep on her right side..make sure she has no pillows or other bedding in the way of her breathing. this will help the stool to move naturally through her intestine. this should help, if not see ur doctor

my daughter just dealt with this same thing and it was so bad we had to go to the emergency room. The doc there advised to give a half a teaspoon of mineral oil in her bottles twice a day. I've also tried the karo syrup thing and i heard its best to use the dark one but that didnt work for her. good luck!
