My husband has schizophrenia and I've been really depressed. After his last hospitalization my grandpa died and I was the only one who couldn't go to the funeral. We were very close. Now I've met somebody and am having an affair, starting to hang out in bars and flirt with strange guys and am just a mess and ignoring my three children. I guess a LCS is a social worker, so would the psychologist be better for me or the LCS? Also any preferences on a female seeing a female or male?

Both LCSW's and psychologists are trained to do individual psychotherapy for a variety of problems. The main difference is that LCSW's are generally cheaper because they only have a master's instead of a PhD (which may be a consideration if you're having to pay out of pocket).

The main thing is that you need to find someone who you feel comfortable with and who you feel you could trust. Also, it's helpful to find out if the person has had experience in working with others with similar issues to yours and what their approach to therapy is. The gender question is also a personal preference - go with whatever feels most comfortable to you. Don't be afraid to try out a couple of different therapists to see which one you feel most comfortable with.

It sounds like getting some counseling would be very beneficial for you given how many difficult situations you've had to endure recently. Good luck with finding a good therapist!

psychologist would be better someone that specializes in marriage. Social workers deal more the the overall well being of people, child abuse, finding homes for patients that are homeless etc... Also, your husband is schizophrenic, you better let his doctor know whats going on, if your husband finds out whats going it may throw him over the edge and could put your safety and even the safety of your children at risk. Start with his doc and go from there.

See a Psychologist and do not forget your kids! I do not quite get your whole question it skips from one to the next and some things have nothing to do with it but anyway maybe your husband should also see one so they can help him get better! Good luck to you all!

Doesn't matter, see any professional immediately. I suspect an LCS will refer you to a psychologist/psychologist for long term care.

Please take care of your children! If your children are being neglected please call a family member/friend/social services to help you out.

Take the first step -- tell someone how you feel!
