I went thru basic training at Lackland AFB on Oct 23,1983 the day after the Marines were bombed in Beruit. So there was stuff going on in the world then too. I went in with a guaranteed contract to go to Kessler AFB for air traffic control and the day my orders were cut graduation day I was wisked away from flight and put on a bus with no one else from my flight to a Top Secret base. The time I spent was great and the USAF is the way to go. If you think your a hero and want combat training join the Marines or Army.

I had a friend join the Air Force in the sixties. He was trained to be a plane guard. Can you imagine standing 8 hours a day is all kinds of weather, guarding airplanes? Just the radiant heat from the pavement would be enough to dissuade my participation. Do not enlist for security if you have any intelligence.

If you're thinking joining the military it should be your choice, you cant base your decision off someone else experience , because your experience may not be like theirs. Its all depends on your reasons for joining..what do you feel you have to offer. What are you good at doing?..Those are questions you have to answer for yourself. Never base a military decision off someone else experience it could be a HUGE mistake!
