Can the Bible be trusted? Archaeologists have not been able to disprove the Bible. When the Walls of Jericho were discovered (1930's) they had fallen outward. (When they were made to fall inward towards the city.) Just like the Bible had said. The archaeologists were puzzled because the way they fell made the city of Jericho easy to access. It didn't make sense, unless you read the Bible. Oceanographers found salt in the Black sea and signs that it had happened very fast, (floodlike) their only explanation? The Bible's account of what happened. The great flood. They already know that Jesus exsisted. They already know that he was crucified. And if that's not enough... if you still don't believe that Jesus is the son of God. Then how did he fulfill over 61 prophecies in the old testament that was written several hundred years before he was born? Just for him to fulfill 8/61 of them the chances are 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000-(Schol... Peter Stonner) He fulfilled them all!

Not only did Jesus fulfill over 61 prophecies that were written before his time but he even told us about future events that have come to pass. You’d have to be a total idiot to not see this! The majority of the people that Bible bash have never picked up the Bible and read it before… & if they have… it’s only bits and pieces… enough to where they think they can ridicule it. The Bible says “My people perish for lack of knowledge.” & “The beginning of knowledge is to fear the Lord.” Obviously there are a ton of ignorant people out there!

And if you say… well… the Bible says that and it’s not true. Well then check out these statistics… dear… The way that archaeologists know how accurate an ancient manuscript is… is how soon the second copy was written. For example, Homer’s The Illiad is considered to be the 2nd most accurate ancient manuscript ever found. It had over 643 copies hand written. (They obviously hand wrote all of their documents) Do you know what the time frame was between the first original copy and the second copy????? 500 years! The Bible had over 24000 hand written manuscripts found… GUESS HOW MUCH TIME WAS IN BETWEEN THE ORIGINAL AND THE SECOND COPY???? 25-35 YEARS! Which makes it THAT much more accurate! Only about 30 years! So, obviously it’s accurate.

Also, about the so called “hidden” gospels… there are no such things. They aren’t hidden. You can go into the library and check them out. Also, they are not relevant to the Holy Bible because #1 the Bible says that the word is the one and only truth. #2 All of the gospels were written by that particular person… i.e. John wrote John etc. Well… the “hidden” gospels weren’t written by the people that they are named after… in fact they are written by people that were born hundreds of years after that person. So they are irrelevant. Hope you all read with your “open” minds and realize that maybe you DON’T know what you are talking about. Try doing a bit of research.
Oh.. and BTW Christianity means to be like Christ. But people were serving God waaayyy before Christ was sent to this earth. So remember that when you say that Christianity came later. Because the living God has ALWAYS been and will always be.

Well here's how I can explain it. Let me give you an example. Let's say a secretary is writing a letter for her boss. While she types the boss dictates to her what he wants her to write down. Now is the letter the thoughts of the boss or the secretary? It's the thoughts of the boss because the ideas are his. The secretary just wrote the letter for him. Likewise the 40 men chosen to write the Bible were somewhat like God's secretaries writing down what he told them to write. Therefore God is the true author of the Bible not the men. Some scriptures you might want to look up in your own Bible are: 2 Peter 1:20, 21 , 2 Timothy 3:16, 17 , Romans 15:4.
I hope this answers your question.

You shouldn't believe anything just because someone tells you "It's the word of God. You can't doubt it." Many people sit around and claim that the words must be true because of prophecies. Well if that's all it takes, then as of right now I myself am making my own prophecies. At some point in the future there will be war. At some point in the future there will be pestilence. At some point in the future man will kill man, brother will kill brother. At some point in the future man will find a way to extend his life indefienitely and also be brought to life. These are my prophecies spoken to me by God. Doubt them not. Or face Gods wrath in the afterlife. Oh and don't forget that god is all-knowing and all-forgiving. Unless you don't obey him then he sends you to hell.

I have asked this question of zealous Christians many times and invariably they point at scriptures within the Bible to support their contention that it is the word of god. They cannot point to a collateral source to authenticate the Bible as the work of God. In essence they contend The Bible self authenticates because it states that it is the word of God. In fact this is the very first line of scripture found in Genesis. "O Logos tou Theou"... What has always bothered me about all religions is that they seem to be ethnocentric. In other words, they always seem to have origins from within a certain ethnic group. It seems to me that the word of God would be in a language which all humanity would understand and not written in Hebrew, Greek, Arabic, Aramaic, or some other language. When I look at something as simple as a tree or a blade of grass, I can conclude that humans are not responsible for its existence. The evidence seems to point out that whatever is responsible for most of what we see including the Earth, Sun, Stars, Galaxies and all the varied life forms, it is far beyond the capabilities of Humanity. Most religions are based on the concept of "Faith" and not science, logic or rational thought. In fact I was reprimanded as a child for even asking what I thought were logical questions just as you have asked. Just keep searching for the Truth. We would not have a brain if we were supposed to take everything at face value. One of the best arguments that I have ever heard for spirituality was given by a highly educated Christian. He asked me whether I could rule out the possibility scientifically that our five senses were not the only senses. I had to agree that this was a scientific possibility. Keep asking questions.

People have found evidence that the Bible is the word of God. How? The prophesies in the Old Testament have ALL come true!! How could a person guess the future and get it ALL right? I can't think of the word but: the people who dig for old artifacts in the ground have found items that were mentioned in the Bible.

Not quite sure, but it is certainly possible to demonstrate with the greatest possible degree of certainty that:
a) Jesus was a real person
b) The biblical accounts of Jesus' life are accurate
c) The biblical accounts of Jesus' life have not been altered since being written
d) Jesus (indirectly but intentionally) claimed to be the Messiah, the Son of God, and part of God himself.
e) That Jesus was who he said he was.
Now, the proof of those statements would fill a bookshelf. However, let me give you a simplified version of the proof for (e)
Jesus made some incredible claims about himself. Disregarding other issues raised in (a) to (d) above, such claims could really only indicate one of three things:
1) He was lying
2) He was mentally ill (perhaps manic)
3) He was telling the truth
He could not have been lying or playing a practical joke of some kind. Nobody knowingly gets themself tortured and executed for something they just made up. Jesus did. He could have known for months that some powerful people were out to have him killed, yet he kept on going.
He could not have been mentally ill, because there is no evidence that he displayed any other signs of mental illness. Perhaps the disciples could have left out the details of some of the crazy things he did. However, without modern medical knowledge, they probably would not have recognised some of them and hence would not have edited them out of the text.
Therefore, without much room for doubt, he was who he said he was.

As quoted from the website below:
"Because God uses a person to send His word as a revelation and because that immediately makes His word conditional to the limitations of the human body, I have reason to believe that a revelation can be interpreted wrong. Since God is all logic, all intelligent and all wise, the revelation would be right but the interpretaion could be wrong. Therefore, if a said revelation does not seem logical, intelligent or wise, I have reason to ignore it. Which is perhaps why there are many branches of the same faith. Essentially, I'll believe whatever my heart and mind tells me seems right."

Personally, I believe that there is no such thing as a truly sacred text (e.g. the Judeo-Christian Bible), and that more trouble has been caused in the history of mankind due to mis- and counter-interpretations of so-called sacred texts than due to anything else.
The Buddha had it right. He told his followers, just before he died, that they should NEVER write down what he said; that the path to enlightenment was truly an individual undertaking; that writing things down invariably led to sub-cults and feuding amongst them. Guess what? For about 600 years people followed his advice, but then suddenly chose to ignore it, resulting in the so-called Sutras and other books. Now you have at four least major sub-cults (and innumerable minor ones) of Buddhism, feuding amongst themselves.
There are doubtless some truths in "scared texts." But there are even more falsehoods. I think noone should ever believe the word of man, without proof or testing by your own long experience.

The original text could not be found.
Also there's approximately 30 different versions of the Bible and there's a good possibility that the original scribes added their own content. Also, early versions of the bible were translated from ancient Greek...a language that did not contain PUNCTUATION. So a lot of material is very open to interpretation.
There's terrific book on the subject of why the Bible isn't a reliable religious text.

I pondered this question for years till a friend gave me a book that showed me where a gentleman that was a former athiest had contracted cancer. He was a builder of dams and different things and told what had happened to him. I'll try to tell you what I can remember about what he said. He said that after he contracted cancer, his wife, who was a christian, had set a prayer chain for him. He still refused to believe that God even existed. He went through all the test and everything that mankind had availible to him to try and treat it, but, finally the doctors looked at him and said they had exhausted everything availible to them for him and they could do no more. He finally broke down and prayed to god himself. After a week he had another appointment with his doctor again to see how much it had grown and how much time he had left. When the test came back, he had no cancer in his body at all. They reran the test and they came back negative. He didn't no what to say, except to praise God for what happened to him. "Never underestimate the power of prayer." He wrote a few books and showed where archiologist were doing digs to prove or disprove what things that had happened in the bible, and they have found physical proof about things that had happened in the bible. There is alot of things that I could share with you, including things that have happened to me. I will be the first one to testify that the word of God is true. The only thing that bothers me today about the bibles that are written today. Is that the bible says do not change one word in it. I like you would like to read a bible that's unchanged in words. I still question that part myself. God is and always will be the answer to anything you have to deal with.
