yes u could go by bus...
i go to fort lauderdale a few times a year and don't really have the luxury of taking day long drives.
so what i do is (at least from FLL to NYC). I take Airtran to philadelphia international...
it costs about $70 and then take the "CHINATOWN" bus to nyc
the bus is $20 RT, 10 one way..
so it the end one way costs $80.
if you can find a cheap flight to D.C. or Richmond, VA, also check out the chinatown busses, very very cheap!
for more on the ct buses:

2000coach.com
apexbus.com
there are a ton more, but those are ones i use from PHL <--> NYC

Ride-share. Post on craigslist and find someone who would like to lower their gasoline bill for the drive up. Let's see - 1500 miles, 30 MPG...about 50 gallons of gas. It would cost the driver about $150 in gas to go alone. But if you guys split the cost - $75. Get a third person to tag along you got it down to $50!

You could try mailing your self.. lol JK
Taking the bus is still expensive believe it or not.
Try Jet Blue or air tran. Once you arrive @ an airport we have Subways/shuttle buses to Manhattan.. Real cheap. Don't use taxis.

Buses are the cheapest form of transportation if you book them more than 21 days in advance. If you are looking for something even cheaper, hitch hike.

Hitchhike, but it's not very safe though.
You could ask someone if they are going that way and help pay for gas. Maybe you should try and find another girl to travel with.

Greyhoud is your best-bet unless you know someone who might be driving there and you might split the trip with them. (Of course, it would be good if you have your drivers license by that time, smile)
