Wow, that first lady must be PMSing. Geez. I'm a Christian, but I don't think I'm come off as self-righteous. I actually try not to use scripture too much. I just try to make sense. And if people don't want to believe what I believe then that's their loss. I'll just continue to pray for their souls.

What makes us (Christians) self-righteous? It is true that one of the things that makes Christianity different from other religions is that our beliefs our mutually exclusive to (can't coexist with) other beliefs. We see the world in black and white, there are things that are right and things that are wrong. If you poke out your eyes for example you will not be able to see, correct? This is an inarguable truth. Our beliefs are also seen in this same way. No mature Christian pretends to understand all that the bible teaches, but the basic principles are clear. Furthermore, if you have a belief, and yet consider it to be no more or less valid than anyone else belief, then what is the point in having a belief at all? Also, to clarify why Christians are so forward with their beliefs, I would compare it to having a cure to cancer. If you had the cure and you could give it to anyone freely, wouldn't you do you very best to help everyone you possibly could?

I admit that some Christians go way too far, being aggressive about their faith instead of being assertive.
However if you ask a question about "religion" or morals, a Christian has the right to answer, and since his/her sources will most likely include the Bible, it is only natural that a quote will be included in his/her answer.
I think BOTH sides need to learn to be more tolerant, and find a way to express their views without forcing it on others.
Just a thought....has anyone else had enough of these judgemental, self-righteous NON-CHRISTIANS?

Just do your best to ignore them if you don't like what they're posting.
Sometimes, yeah, I agree that it's inappropriate and annoying to listen to.
While I'm a Christian, I don't like it either when people just regurgitate stances without showing they actually understand what they're saying. And often the verses aren't delivered in a way that is helpful to the question being asked.
But people go through stages in life, and this is where many of them start out.
And while some are being antagonistic, others actually believe they're being helpful or doing the right thing... so I usually avoid throwing around the "judgmental & self-righteous" label (which usually just gives ME a bad attitude) and try to take them right where they're at.
It often takes a long time to figure out how to incorporate one's beliefs in a way that still is respectful and considerate of others... that's all.

I've had enough of self-righteous, judgmental people period. It has nothing to do with being Christian. I have met just as many atheists who are just as obnoxious and judgmental as many Christians. Look at it this way, you're going to find some form of self-righteousness and judgmentalism (sp?) in any group you encounter, whether it be religious, social, or political. I think we all just need to accept it for what it is: the fact that this type of behavior is human nature. People have a natural tendency to want to always be right in their beliefs and opinions, and it's okay. If you really think about it, you can be self-righteous and judgmental about certain things, as can the rest of us. Let's all just accept it as a natural, if unnattractive, human trait and move on with our lives. If you don't like what someone says, then move on, don't let it bother you.

True Christians ARE NOT self-righteous! The source of a Christians righteousness is Christ. The closer a person gets to Christ, the more righteous they become.
If you would come to Christ, you too can become righteous in the sight of God and man.
God's standard's are much higher than man's standard. You may be a decent human being according to man's standard; and still fall way short of meeting God's expectations.
The only way to solve this problem is to come to Jesus Christ and allow Him to make you righteous.

Why ask why? Do you what you can to spread a better message, educate others, inspire people to NOT be ignorant. It's easy to ask the question, it's a lot harder to get off your computer and get out there and make a difference. If the Christians are bothering you, maybe their message is getting through and you are feeling the call to Christ. Most Christians are like people of any other religion or non-religion, they just want the freedom to practice their own faith and for you to have the freedom to believe in what you want to. Blessings to you!

The Bible is the final arbitrator for Christians. Of course we will quote from the Bible.
I believe we are as judgmental and self-righteous as the atheists/humanists out there.

I've had enough of the self-righteous Christians, and in this city they know to stay away from my home. There are a good deal of Christians who aren't like this though, and it's a shame that the self-righteous few have to seriously damage the reputation of their entire religion.

You are correct in stating you do not need to follow the Christian Faith to be a decent human being. I have known a great many people who were and are great and decent people, who were not of the Christian Faith.
You are also correct in stating that not all responces to questions posted here require a quote from The Christian Faith Bible. Many questions I have seen here do not require a responce from one of the Christian Faith. And many do not deserve a responce from any "decent" human being.
I would suggest to my Christian Brothers and Sisters that they controle their enthusiasm... I am trying to do the same.
I try to limit my "Christian" responces to those asking Questions about Christian issues. Or to those who attack or misrepresent my Faith. or to other, limited referances where I believe a Christian responce could be helpful.
Where a compleat Christian responce is not possable I invite all who whould ask a Question about The Christian Faith to email me. thus taking the issue out of this forum
