get an operating system on CD.
put the CD in the drive and turn it on.
If it does not work it's because the computer has not tried to boot from the CD.
Go in the bios setup and tell it to boot from CD first.
to get in bios setup, the computer should tell you on the first screen but it's usually key or F12 or something like that.

If it is a new pc, it should have came with one. If it is a build, you may have to go buy XP or whatever operating system you want. You might be able to get a friend to allow you to use their disk but this is illegal and you "could" possibly get into trouble.

Try www.PClinuxOS.com . Download "pclinuxos-p92.iso" and burn the image to a CD-R.
Put that CD into the Drive and restart your computer, wait about 40sec - 1min. You can try PClinuxOS without installing it. You can install it by clicking one of the icons on the Desktop.
PClinuxOS is similar to Windows XP but without the price tag - its FREE. It should have all the drivers you need on the CD.

Give me your email address and I will attach it to an email direct to sunny spain. It may take a while to download, so why not just buy a copy?
Better still - get the free beta version of the next MicroFlop version of Windows .....VISTA ....for free?
http://www.microsoft.com (I had the full path but lost it so you need to search the site) Beware - it is about 4 GB in size!

Buy one, or get a copy of Linux (which should be free) then install it onto your PC following the instructions (generally insert CD and then follow onscreen instructions).

Put the computer back in the box. Send it back to where you got it. Tell them you need at least three years of education before you're allowed to operate one.

XP can only be installed on one computer
you cannot install on another computer.
Win 2000, and before can be install on any computer.
Get a win 2000 or before, install on your computer. Now you can upgrade to XP for about $110.00. A full (not upgrade) will cost $200.00 to $300.00 for XP Pro.
