If you want to become a Christian, just follow Jesus. He can be found in the Bible. Being a Christian means that you have a personal relationship with Jesus as your savior and God.
First of all that relationship that you want is offered by God. Just go to a church nearby and when the Pastor offers you to believe in Jesus, you come forward and tell everyone that you want to believe in Jesus.
Remember, this offer comes from God. You cannot initiate this relationship. If there is no invitation from that church, talk to the Pastor personally to explain to you the plan of salvation from the Bible.
After that, begin reading your Bible, keep talking to God everything about you everyday. Day after day, your personal relationship with Him will grow.
I personally read the Bible from the beginning to the end. If I don't understand certain thing, I ask for God's wisdom. Going to the church every Sunday also helps me to understand my Bible. Listen to what the preacher has to say. Joining a Bible Study group also helps me, listen to the older teacher has to say.
I used to do what you did; Open any page in the Bible and just read. I ended up opening many same pages in the new testament, because it is easier to understand. I would recommend you to at least try to understand the book of John from the beginning to the end. I have tried it and it helps me alot.

I can't even remember to eat every morning, much less pray. I used to feel bad because I didn't think I was being a good enough christian. I thought I had to do all this stuff to make my spiritual walk real.
Then one day someone said, if you know how to worry, you know how to pray...and it really stuck with me. I just started training myself to always have god on my mind. At first, I pictured him actually sitting next to me, going through my day with me, like a friend you're really close to. Then, much in the same way you might call a really close friend when you get home from work or something to go over the day, I would go over the day with god in my head while I was driving home, or getting ready for bed. Pretty soon, I found that he was constantly on my mind, which in turn helped me to live out some of the things I had had such trouble doing before, like not cussing, or knowing any scripture. But what really changed, was my view on my spiritual walk with God.
I no longer had to live up to religious standards of rituals and practices. I just focused on my personal relationship with God. And low and behold, everything else came in time. He'll get you there. You just have to find your groove.
I highly suggest trying to get to a point where he's constantly on your mind. It really helps.

Get a few Bibles and use them to get a better understanding of the scripture, don't get to comfortable reading things about other religion, this could confuse you. Start with the new testament, He said that he is here as an example for us to follow. If you need to pray do it before you get out of bed an also when you go to bed. Pray for guidance and understanding, give yourself at least 30 minutes to study a day with no interruption this is also a time to pray in-case you forgot is OK to start slow do it at your own pace for he is patience. Its OK to open to any page this might help to heal your heart in a way you might need. Remember if anyone say to you anything regrading the Bible check it out for yourself. Ro. 12:2 This really helped me and I hope it would help you too.

You ask him to come into your heart and forgive your sins. You can pray anytime he is always there to listen. You can go to a christian book store and get a bible study guide.Let the lord guide you just keep asking God for guidance and he will help you along. There will be tough times and when they come along you will know your doing something right because that's when Satan will try and give you a hard time.Just remember Satan has no power over God.When Satan starts bugging you just ask God to get rid of him.We serve an awesome God.Look around for a church you are comfortable in. You will know when you find it.Good luck and God bless you!I know he will!!

I am no expert, but I believe that if you accept and believe in Jesus Christ, the Father, and the Holy Spirit, and you are baptized, follow the teachings of the bible, you are then a born again christian. "Born Again" simply means that once baptized, you are "Born Again" in spirit as a new creation, and are now open to the Holy Spirit.
A summary of christian belief that early christian church leaders composed is the apostles creed.
I suggest you read the Bible from beginning to end, (including the old testament) a chapter at a time. Don't just read it, study what you just read. You can also join a bible study group!
I believe that the Catholic Church is the true church originating from the apostles.

Issac,
Start reading in John and then the other Gospels. It is ok to forget to pray we all do but if you for get in the morning then try in the afternoon or evening....God is always there to listen.
On being a Christian, remember these five steps....
Hear the word , Believe what it says, repent of your sins, be baptized, and then try to live life as Gos asks. Read Acts 2:38
I hope that helped...God Bless you, Issac.....

If you have asked God to forgive you for your sins through the sacrifice that Jesus made on your behalf, and you have asked Him to be the Lord of your life, you're already there.
the rest is all about growing in your faith.
I forget to pray a lot, too. But I always feel more peaceful when I do, because after I pray I feel closer to God, like my life is in tune with His.
if you want some direction with reading your bible, pray that GOd would reveal HIs will for your life through what you are about to read, and just pick one book and read it a bit at a time. however much you like. Don't pick random verses. Go through the New Testament books first, then try Isaiah or Psalms. (personal favorites)
or join up with a bible study for your age group at church. getting involved with church will definitely help you bond with other people who are involved there, and you can "build each other up" in your faith by working for God and having someone to discuss things with.

The first step is to pray and ask Jesus to save you and make you His. Then ask Him to lead you and guide you. What does He convict you about in your conscience, in your heart? Is he pointing out any specific sins or other areas that he wants you to come to grips with? Try looking those things up in the Bible (Get a concordance to go with your Bible it is very useful.)
Are there any persons in the Bible that you especially admire? Try studying their lives. Look at how they obeyed God, what happened when they disobeyed, and how they made their decisions and choices in life.
Do you have problems with money, friends, other things...? Study the places in the Bible where they are mentioned. There is no book of the Bible titled Financial Matters, or Godly Buddies, but there are exampled of wise financial handling and good vs. poor choices in friendships throughout.
So it depends on what you want and on what you need. I almost envy you. You are about to discover so much richness in the Bible, things you never noticed before and it is all going to be so fresh and new and wonderful to you. Enjoy!

Those practices have nothing to do with being saved or not. As long as you truly and honestly asked Christ into your heart to save you from your sins then you are a born-again Christian.
Those practices have to do with growing as a Christian. Don't worry, God is not going to snatch away your salvation just because you forgot to pray one morning or do not read your Bible in a set way. Just be confident in the fact that, if you made a heartfelt comittment, you are saved for good. "For none can snatch those who are mine from my hand." Relax, you are fine, just try to work on your prayer life and setting aside time for it, and keeping reading your Bible and you will be fine.
