I just turned 21 and was wondering that question.

yes it apparently is, but a better choice would be natural red grape juice, and even better is eating the grapes whole. the good stuff is in the skin of the grapes and red wine sits & ferments with the skins while white wine doesn't, making red wine the choice that docs recommend. rose wine is another choice that's between white and red, as it also ferments with the skin although not as much compared to reds.

you might want to try a cabernet sauvignon as ur first red, most of them are rather fruity and easy to drink... kinda like grape juice spiked with vodka. lol.

Researchers in France have found differences in red wine drinkers’ “good cholesterol,” which could account for the drink’s beneficial effects against cardiovascular disease.
Researchers analyzed the high-density lipoprotein composition of teetotalers, regular drinkers and heavy drinkers (most of whom generally drank red wine). They found that HDL cholesterol increased as alcohol consumption increased, and that HDL particles from wine consumers were richer in certain components that can play a protective role in cardiovascular disease.

The well-documented relationship between moderate consumption of alcohol — particularly red wine — and reduced risk for heart attack may be partly explained by alcohol’s relationship to increased levels of HDL. The new research provides an in-depth look at that connection.
Polyphenols--compounds in grape skins and present in red wine--decrease the production of a protein that causes blood vessels to constrict and reduces the flow of oxygen to the heart. The protein, endothelin-1, is believed to play a key role in the development of heart disease.

Keep it to 1 - 2 glasses per day. That should be enough to mellow you out, too.

wine is not good or bad on your heart. If you drink a glass or two of wine a day, it is good for cleaning out your liver though. In moderation it is a good thing for some parts of your body, but be careful if you have family in your background that have had a problem with alcohol as you may have a lower tolerance for it and could end up ooked just off that little bit.

yes but only slightly better than grape juice. It's the nutrient balance in your body that's good for your heat. Don't suffer thru red wine you don't like cause you think it's doing something for you. If you want a glass a day, more power to ya, but heart-wise you're just as good with some juice & vitamins.
