I don't have the slightest idea. It is pretty stupid though, considering that it's "Kentucky" Fried Chicken which opened it's first restaurant in Utah back in 1952. I guess Utah Fried Chicken didn't sound catchy enough.
As far as marduk D's statement about minorities not appearing in those commercials, I guess he hasn't seen the new one.
And merlot, the name change from Kentucky Fried Chicken to KFC, is for the same reason that McDonalds is Mickey D's and Burger King is BK. It's because they seem to think that the new names appeal to the younger demographic, i,e., they sound "hip". In the new commercial the voice over guy says "Kentucky Fried Chicken".

You know what? Remember when KFC used to be just Kentucky Fried Chicken? Well the state of Kentucky tried (Idon't know if they won) to sue the restaurant for using the states name without permission. THAT'S when they switched to KFC. Maybe they are afraid to touch the "My old Kentucky Home" song for the same reasons. Also, have you noticed that the Kentucky Derby is no longer called that? The sate had problems with that too, so now it's "Race for the Roses".
Yes, Iam bursting with useless facts. Good think Yahoo has this site.

kfc has the black community locked in, my wife cannot resist the damn stuff.
but rednecks and racist dirtbags respond to that tune like moths to a flame. they want to get the redneck dollars too. i bet that you will not see any minorities in the commercials that feature that song.
