Has anyone ever heard of a secondary school drama teacher taking the lead role in a play?

I have NEVER heard of this practice.

Middle and High school plays are for the STUDENTS. Why a teacher would take the place of a student is beyond me.

I've heard of it, yet. Generally speaking I don't approve -- it doesn't matter if you don't think there are any students "good enough" for the part, that's not the point. It's supposed to be for the students, and no one expects Broadway-calibre performances.

I suppose there may be some certain situations where it ws appropriate, though. Like if it's a really evil character and it's felt that the students would be emotionally scarred somehow by playing that character. But it would have to be a very, very strong argument for it.

No but don't judge too harshly. Talk to the teacher to understand why this is happening. Don't jump to conclusions.

that doesn't seem right! I thought teachers were suppose to support kids and encourage them, not take away the light from them?!?!
