First of all to have long hair you need to have love for your hair. Long hair needs much attention.
I trimmed my hair every 3 months and used a product called Tricofero de Barrie. I bought it at a pharmacy, if you can't find it, here are some tips. Don't blow dry or iron your hair (stay away from heat). Comb it every night and wrap it or something, don't sleep on it. Wash your hair every 3 to 5 days and style it with products (shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer, leave-in treatments, etc.) that promote hair growth if you can afford them.
But about these products ask your stylist which one is best for your hair type. A moisturizer can help keep your hair split-end free, but again the moisturizer you must use depends on the climate of your area and your hair type.
Tell your stylist what you want and if she/he wants to keep you as a client you will be helped. If she/he can't answer your questions properly find an other stylist. You've got to love your hair and get the best for it, this includes a stylist that really knows about hair.

Good luck with your new look.

The real-minded people of the world who are self confident never said split ends was a fashion crime. You dont have to run a brush through your hair every time you shower of even everyday. Run your fingers through it to make sure the big tangles are out. Keep growing it until its to your butt if you want to. Braid it without the daily hair brushing and trim it when your done having it that long. Really, unless your the cover face for salon sassoon, then nobody will care about split hair ends. Or, forever be caught up in what the hair industry has to say next.

Do what I do. I cut my hair 1/2" every month not for my split ends. My hair stylist and my mother in law who studied cosmetology told me that the more you cut your hair the more it grows that is why I cut it but not a lot. For split ends you could mix avocado, egg yolk and olive oil in a bowl. After its all mixed together putted on your hair and let it **** for a while about 30min. Than wash it off and put your daily leave in conditioner and you wont get to much split ends. Do this once a week. Not only will your hair grow but it will be soft and healthy.

Take good care of it, get it trimmed often and not just an inch or two, but four inches, it will grow faster and fuller and thicker if you trim it enough, and don't use a blow dryer. Use some nice Aussie Knot to keep the knots out so you don't pull it and cause split ends when brushing. Use a good shampoo that prevents split ends. Good Luck with your new mane!

My hair dresser told me, no matter what, you should go in for a trim every month or so just to clean the hair up and get rid of split ends. She also said it makes your hair grow faster.
Hope I helped :)

Get a trim to get rid of split ends. But only a trim. I got a haircut about a month ago and it's growing pretty fast without a trim.

Get it trimmed frequently, just a half inch or so to get rid of split ends. This will make your hair healthier and in turn it will grow faster.

*Have ends cut every 6-8 weeks.
*Be gentle when you brush your hair, start brushing at the bottom. Never force the brush through your hair.
*Try to avoid brushing your hair when it's wet as it is at it's weakest. (I usually brush my hair before I wash it when it's dry so that there are no knots).
*Use a good conditioner. When you condition squeeze excess water out of your hair so that conditioner can cling better to the hairs' surface.
*Don't straighten your hair every day.
*Let your hair dry naturally or let it dry almost completley and then just use a hairdryer to finish it.
*Avoid running your fingers through your hair if you wear rings to avoid snagging.
