Lie to them and make them know how it feels. Think of a good lie that will get them really excited and when you don't go through with it they will learn how bad it feels to be lied to.

Well they say that kids don;t understand that they are lying until about 7. They try to make us happy that they don;t feel it is a bad thing. I would just let them know that when they tell you the truth you are happier tehn when they don;t tell the truth. Tell them you have eyes in the back of your head and see what they do so it will be easier when they tell you the truth.

When I think my daughter, 7, is lying I tell her to let me see her tongue. If she does, then I have a pretty good idea that she is not lying. When she is, she won't show it to me. Then I let her know that is easier for her to tell me the truth, cause she will not get as bad of a punishment if she does. I know how you feel. It does get easier, they say. I'm still in doubt. lol

You need to find the reason of why this happens. May be you are hard on kids and just to save their soul from being beaten up or abused by the parents, children tell lies.
Try to be friendly with kids and involve with them in their activities so that they won't feel lonely and in the same manner would not get any chance of telling lies. Being hard on kids, encourage them to tell more lies.

I tell them straight forward that lying is wrong. It makes Mommy and Daddy unhappy and it makes Jesus VERY unhappy. I also tell them when they lie that no one believes them anymore. I go through the "Boy who cried wolf" story. Then, if the lying continues, we begin to take XBox, TV, Computer, outside privileges. If that still doesn't work. We go back to the good ole fashioned spank your behind if you lie. That one is extremely successful at my house.

I used to work with kids with RAD who are infamous for lying... If they are lying about something that happened, and you can obviously tell, we would say, "Is that what REALLY happened or what you WISH happened?" or just "I bet that's what you WISH were true, huh," in a very casual way. If they are lying about something they did, sometimes if you say, "Did you do it just a LITTLE bit?" they will admit to it more easily.

well thank goodness i did not have that problem.
um, maybe you can give alittle reward for when he or she does tell the truth and when you know it is a lie put it in the jar. and tell them he or she can redeem the lies and fix them and give them a treat when they fix the lie....
good luck
