I've tried a bit of everything over the years, from mini-skirts up to mid-thigh (and shorts even shorter) to skirts that cover my ankles (and if they don't, pants underneath), and everything from sleeveless (strapless rather not) to covering even the wrists.

After all this, I will say the following: I 'felt modest' in pretty much everything I wore - I've always had the conviction, as far as I can remember, that clothes exist to cover us rather than 'selectively reveal' us. I would say that modesty is more a matter of the heart than anything else, as it is written: to the pure, all things are pure(1).

That having been said, I am finding nowadays that I prefer to keep my necklines at or above collarbone level, cover my arms to the wrist, and my legs down below the ankle. This is not easy in the summertime, especially since it is amazingly difficult to find items that really cover all of that in one fell swoop.

Sometimes I need to wear three layers to get the coverage I want - and it's 30 degrees Celsius outside or more - but I feel it's worth it to dress in a way that I am comfortable with.

One more thing: another reason I don't mind the layers is because it looks funkier and thereby it isn't immediately obvious why I have so much of my body covered - it sort of remains between me and God unless there's some reason to talk about it with a particular person.

So, to sum up: I believe that:

we should assume that clothes exist to cover us rather than reveal, we should dress enough to feel appropriately covered and not shake whatever booty remains exposed - "dressing", above all, in the doing of good and the possession of a gentle and quiet spirit - so that our clothes do not distract from these important matters(2);

on the other hand, our clothes should be spiritually modest - that is, they should not draw attention to the fact that we are "trying to be modest", they should not represent an advertisement along the lines of "see how virtuous I am"(3).

modesty is to keep your self covered avoid men looking at you. I think descent clothing means skirts bellow the knees and tops that do not enhance the breasts or show cleavage. I am not say I stick to that but would consider that modest dress not to flount your sexuality

Totally covered (you can have a V-neck, but not so low that you can see the majority of the boob). Shoulders are okay to show. Tighter clothes are okay, but they should totally cover the torso, no skin showing at all. And they shouldn't be so tight that there is nothing left to imagination. Shorts and skirts are fine, but they should NEVER go above mid thigh. So anything up half way from your knee to the bottom part of your torso is WAY TOO SHORT and anything longer is acceptable.

If you want to dress modestly, I think that you should where pants or a skirt that goes at least as far as you kneecap. As for the top, obviously no cleavage. Sleeveless shirts are questionable. Obviously nothing skin-tight.

Pray and ask God to show you what way to dress will make you a good representive of his morals and values, so that you can lead others into God's way of salvation.
