My son has the same type of twitches, he blinks a lot and licks his lips. He has been diagnosed with tourettes syndrome. Your best bet would be to take him to the doctor and ask about it. We went through many tests and have it pretty well controlled by meds. Does he have any other symptoms? Is he hyper, or still wets the bed?? My son has trouble controlling himself once and a while but, he get better every year and is almost fifteen now.

My 3 year-old was doing that when upset, instead of going into a rage.
I think it is a way of internalizing the event: that is bad.
It is quieter in the house, but it is a price he will be paying years from now, building pressure inside.

If the boy blinks occasionnally, try to see a pattern, a link between each event to find the cause of the blinking, and try to make the boy talk about what is upsetting him (or hurting inside).

If it is all the time, may be it is better to see a doctor or behavior specialist.

my grandson did this a month ago. The doc found 2 white small knots inside his eyelid. Gave him prescription and eye drops.
