I did an art exam recently, and its in an exhibition tomorrow. My mum wants to go but I don't want her to, because my art work is depressing and I just know she'll get the wrong idea about it. How can I stop her going?

You can't. What you can do is go with her and answer any questions she has about the art work. Don't assume anything. Art is an individual thing and it only has to have meaning to you.

unless ur in grade school, this is not the time for subterfuge. sit down and talk to her about ur art. help her understand why ur art has the look it does and how to interpret what she's seeing. listern to her response. understand what she's really thinking particularly if she has overinterpreted like depressing=suicidal.
not unusual for parents as you know. so help her. even offer to go with her so you can hear her impressions in person.

Some parents just love to be involved in what their children are doing. I would be their if you were mine. Just explain it to her, she will understand. You should be happy that your mom wants to be involved in your life, alot of children do not have that.

Be honest!! Tell her you are concerned about her going and why. She is your mum, she can handle it.
