I usually add:
Balsamic Vinegerette
Red wine
Oregano
Black Pepper
Chopped Onion & green peppers
Diced tomatoes
I've never measured, just add them to taste. It always works out good for me! You can leave out any of the veggies & wine if you don't have it on hand. It's yummy!

Just add some fresh herbs and spices to it.
Here's a recipe for spaghetti sauce I made up myself just recently. I have a fresh herb garden and wanted to use all the fresh ingredients. My wife loves it.
Spaghetti Sauce:
2 cans tomato sauce
1/2 onion (I was using Vidalia)
8-10 basil leaves, minced/chopped
4 sprigs oregano, minced/chopped
4 large garlic cloves
2-3 Tbsp olive oil
sugar to taste
salt and pepper to taste
Saute onions and garlic in olive oil. Add basil and oregano and saute. Add tomato sauce, sugar, and salt and pepper and simmer 10-15 minutes.
If you like chunkier sauce, try chopping a couple of roma tomatoes up and adding to the saute with the basil and oregano.

Garlic, onions (whatever you have on hand -- white, yellow, green, powder, etc.), basil, oregano, maybe a dash of olive oil, mushrooms, salt, pepper, bell peppers...basically anything and everything that you like -- and have in your fridge or pantry.
You can dice tomatoes or squash to add to the sauce or bay leaves, wine, and even olives! The possibilities are absolutely endless. As long as you like the ingredients you're tossing in, you can't go wrong!

More than a pinch of garlic, I'd brown up a couple of cloves of garlic lightly in a pan, maybe a little bit of sweet onion too. Oregano and basil are good, and sometimes a little cayenne pepper will give it some kick.

Nobody told you this. You must use italian tomatoes if you want your sauce to be sweet and yummy, simmer for a long time, and if you don't find italian tomatoes, add a pinch of sugar to the sauce.

I would add real garlic if you had it. If not then some regular garlic powder. Then add some basil, parsley, oregeno and salt and pepper to taste.
If you want to give it some "meat" without giving it meat. Then add some mushrooms and/or peppers and/or some cheese like parm.
Enjoy! :)
