I have this cat, which my mom has about had enough with. Lately she has been peeing on the couch on the same spot, we have tried all kinds of spray and cleaning to remove the odor, and to get the cat to stay away from the couch but it doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions on what to do--because we have had the couch cleaned but that costs 70 bucks a pop, and we just can't throw money like that out the window. Any ideas on what to try next? please help--i wouldn't want to get rid of her, but i might have to.

She's been fixed, and we've taken to the vet, and he said if she had an infection she would be peeing everywhere but she only pees on that one spot on the couch

the spray bottle and rolled up newspaper is what my aunt uses to keep her kitten off her couches...from what your describing it sounds like she knows exactly where "her spot" is to pee, and they keep going back to that same spot, they have very, very good smell and sometimes all the products in the world won't take out the scent if she's been using it as her litterbox...you might have to replace the couch, sorry to say if nothing else works. also, has there been any significant changes in the household recently? sometimes that will make them "act out"
good luck

Well aside from a urinary tract infection and nothing changing in your house (new cat, new furniture, dirty litter box) try putting a litter box by the couch. I know that's not always the most pleasing thing to see when you sit at the couch but it will put a litterbox closer to where she is peeing. The cat keeps peeing in the same spot because even thought you have had it cleaned it still smells like her. Go to a Pet store and ask them if they have a cleaner called Nature's Miracle. Buy that and SOAK the couch. Frount and back all over the cushion and the spot the cushion sits on. That should help with the smell and the cat shouldn't go back. Also NEVER clean anything your cat is peeing on with Ammonia, that makes the problem worse. A cats urine is full of ammonia and by cleaning with ammonia you make the cat think that there is another cat peeing on everything so she has to remark the territory.

I would try the simplest thing first. Cats do not like a dirty litter box, clean it regularly. They like their privacy, and also make sure there is not anything nearby that can make a loud noise while using the box.
Next I would also go to a a store that sells pet supplies and get a cat stain odor remover, one that contains enzymes, to use on the sofa to remove all traces of the urine odor. Just follow the label directions.
Usually male cats get urinary blockages more that females , but you may want to make sure she doesn't have one, or an infection.
If you see her going to the spot and start smelling , just say "NO" firmly but not harshly. Then pick her up and gently put her in her clean litter box. Do this as often as you can catch her at it.
DO NOT EVER hit the kitty, she will NOT know why you are doing it and it can make the situation worse.
There are a lot of tips to be found on line, just type in the problem in a search site, and look around.
I have had cats all my life and would not be a rush to get rid of her because she is having a problem.
Be gentle with and understanding with her and she should come around, Good Luck!!

1. Spray bottle
2. Get some tape and fold it over where it is sticky on both sides and put it on the couch so when the cat jumps up there it will land on the tape, cats do not like anything that is sticky so the cat will jump off the couch.
3. Go to any pet store and ask them for SSS.cat. it is a spray can full of just air and it has a motion sensor on it so every time the cat gets near the can it shoots them with cold air which they do not like.

Is your cat fixed?Try using nature's miracles for the smell( which makes ur cat smell around for it until it get the pheromones released from the smell) if it doesn't work, then maybe ur cat is angry with something ,use a plugin pheromone releaser( you won't be able to smell it but ur cat will, it will make it calm down and start peeing in the box instead) and attach it by the litter box( make sure it's clean, cats hate used litter boxes and will pee somewhere else)if the cat isn't angry or stressed then I suggest u take it to the vet ASAP it could be something seriuos such as a UTI.
Goodluck and I hope your couch feels better soon *LOL*
Hope your cat feels better and hope this helps you out:)

invest in a cat repellent product that may do the trick. Keeps my cat off the leather furniture.
You can also train the cat to stay away from the couch, by giving it a little squirt of water when it goes on or near the couch. However it will probably just find a new place to pee.

Has your cat been fixed, is the litter box clean, is there a new animal of some sort in the house? Those are the first things you should answer then if that's not it the cat might have a urinary tract infection.

Spray bottle with water. If she goes to get on the couch spray her. She will associate the couch with getting sprayed and stay away.
