In a small office it is annoying, and I also find it embarassing with my clients. Am I being petty?

Do you have an office? Close the door.

If not, inform the whistler that when you have client meetings you would like it quieted down - that you find it hard to concentrate.

It is likely the whistler doesn't even know that s/he is doing it.

Do not go to management until you have it addresed with them directly.

Is it good?

And it is not sexual harrassment to whistle - it is only if it is a wolf whistle directed at someone. If I whistle the tune "whistle while you work" it is not. That person should not get 2 points.

No you are not being petty and yes that is poor office etiquette. Let the person know that their whistling makes it hard for you to handle your customers. Has any of your customer's complained about it? If so, you can use that as a way to let him know or let a supervisor know.

whistling AT someone, or just whistling a tune? the first being harrassment, the second being merely annoying. If it is interfering with your ability to deal with clients, though, then it should be addressed. I would take your coworker aside and gently ask them not to whistle "just when clients are around" - i would be very apologetic in asking - they may not even realize they're doing it all the time.

No respect. Who has more seniority in the company bring ti up w/ someone higher if needed. It is bad around clients.

It's definately annoying. I'd talk to the person & ask them to please stop whistiling while near your desk. Explain that your clients have made comments on how distracting & annoying it is. Don't be rude or condescending or he/she will go on the defensive & do it more just to annoy you. If this person continues after the conversation, go to your boss/manager/supervisor.

Maybe he or she has ADHD, I couldn't stand that either, I so don't consider that petty. You should speak up politely and say "could you please stop whistling I'm losing my train of thought" and if that doesn't work scream "shut the hell up already" only joking.

NO!!!!! I worked with a whistler once, about drove me crazy. Worse yet, he was tone deaf! I spoke to our boss and asked him to take care of it, after all, that's part of his job. Belle had a better answer, I think.
