I need to learn some information about those phone cards you see in UK Newsagents, saying phone Phillipines, or USA for 3p a minute? how do they work? how much do they cost?

If they are like the ones I use in Greece, you buy a card for, say, 5 Euro. There is a panel on the back which you scratch off to find your unique number. You then ring the company phone number stated on the card - then enter your unique card number - followed by the telephone number overseas. Usually you are then told how many minutes you can speak for your 5 Euro.

Here in Greece, I can phone the UK and speak for 90 minutes with a 5 Euro card, so they are well worth it!

I assume the UK ones work in a similar way.

You could always try one of the VOIP providers to make calls via the internet. In many instances they are free. Below is the internet address for one of these:-
