HOW DO I GET HIM IN HIS OWN BED AND SLEEPING THROUGH THE INGHT??

You let him cry it out. It's a hard thing for parents to do, but necessary. The child will learn to expect what you do to him. If you go in and comfort him every time he cries, he'll learn to expect that, so he'll cry harder and harder. On the flip side, if you stop coming in and comforting him and let him comfort himself, he'll learn to expect that he has to fall asleep on his own. Since he's already one, you have a lot of un-training to do.

In response to your question sent to me:

If he can't open the door to his room, then yes, that's exactly what you do. You let him cry it out in his room. If he can open the door to his room, put a child lock on his door so that he can't get out. Take the child lock off after he learns to put himself to sleep. I don't like the idea of locking the kid in his room, so I don't like putting the child lock on the door any longer than necessary.

BTW, I have 2 kids of my own, so I've been through it, just like you.

Don't let him take long naps during the day. Give him a warm bath and some warm milk before bed. Use lavender scented bath soap and/or lotion to calm him down. Keep getting up and putting the little bugger in his own bed. It will be a hard process but so worth getting through the sleep depravation. Is it quiet and dark when it is time for him to sleep. If not, try to make it very condusive to r e l a x a t i o n for him. Try a bedtime story and get one of his toys (a character toy) to convince him (with your own voice and acting talents, of course) that he should "go to bed so he can wake up and have a good day in the morning." Worked for my daughter who had a wild imagination. Best wishes to you!

My son didn't sleep through the night until we had his tonsils/adnoids taken out when he was almost 6! He had me up every 2 hours for the first year of life.

I can't remeber now what all I read about getting them into their own bed. I remember saying to check on them every 5 minutes and then lengthen that out. Music in the room, a night light...those help.

Have you started him on solid foods yet? Try giving him cereal or fruit around 8:00. Children this age typically wake up because they are hungry. I did this with my children, and it worked great.

In my opinion (which isn't worth much), you really must get him out of your bed. If you don't do it now, you may battle this problem for years. It doesn't hurt children to cry, unless they are ill. Establish a bedtime. Put him in his own bed in his own room. Endure the crying for a few days, and he will get used to it. My daughter never believed how easy it could be to get her son out of her bed until I went to visit her. The crying really doesn't last that long.

Good luck, and sweet dreams!

Well its not that difficult what you should plan is a routine for him ..if you are a stay home mom just make him take less naps I mean if he does sleep threw the day...make sure he has a good decent meal...and activites such as it could keep him going.....then I suggest to take him a warm bath and let them sit there ...for half hour... and then take him out and massage his head with cream. oil, or something that could soothe him..I did this to my son I then bottle fed... and burp him and put some music and just let him lay on his crib and he fell asleep ....Now he might not go to sleep soon but just dont pick him up just hold his hand and tell him nice things....and he will cry but he will understand when sleepy time is...I mean you might hold him but make sure you let him go to sleep in his crib .....it will take time to get him use to the routine but he will pick it up just be patient...and he will go to sleep..

Wow, I which I know, but tell you this there are some people that will tell you, to let them cry all night, and eventually they will just stay in their room, or well 8 yrs later i decided to work on a technique, i which i did it sooner, i took a week of vacations just to do it, i put him on his bed and when he wake up to go to my bed i went back to his room, and put him on his be again, and every time it happened i kept taking him back again to his bed. it took me maybe 3 days or so, but now he does not wakes up again in the middle of the night to go to my bed, it might work for you it may not, if you can handle it for a few days try it... Good luck...remember they only want to feel safe make them feel safe in their room too.

I can't say why he's waking up in the night but when he does it will help if all the lights remain off...no tv etc..this will make him think he should wake up everynight or else he'll miss something. If he's sleeping in your bed that could be why he's waking up. Just be persistant in his bed time and eventually he will. I've been there and I know your pain. It will get better.

Make sure you tire his little butt out during the day. Right before bedtime take him on a walk around the yard or neighborhood. If he is walking, let him do majority of the walking. Then give him a nice cool bath. That should make him sleep all night long.

I cannot believe some of you are recommending MEDICATING your child so they will sleep. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

My son is 2 and still wakes up in the middle of the night. He wants comfort..He has always been a cuddle bug. I see nothing wrong with it. Soon enough he will grow out of it.

If your son keeps getting into your bed, take him by the hand and walk him back into his room and tell him that he has to stay in his own bed. If he continues to do it, take by the hand again, but this time don't say anything and just leave and eventually he will get tired and fall asleep.
