A lot of people have a fear of dying. I think that it is a natural resistance, unless you are sucidal of course. However, if the person is going out of their way to avoid certain situations where death can occur and know what the stats are when they get on a bus of them dying in an accident, that could be bad. When it becomes obsessive then it becomes a problem.

As with most fears, they can become or simply are unreasonable. If a person let's it consume them as to where their life is limited as to what they do and feel trapped, it could lead to depression. Depression is more likely in a person that obesses over dying.

If someone you know is dying, depression can happen there too as they may not want to let go of life here on earth. Death is never easy. I know that some people actually get a peace about it and that is a beautiful thing. But there are those that do suffer from depression from death and the issues surrounding it.

Well, it depends on the intensity. It's normal to fear death or losing someone, it's a natural agency of human emotion. We don't know what death entails: Is there an afterlife? Will I matter after death? Will anyone care? Those are frightening questions. However, if one becomes so obsessed with the idea of dying, you could develop a delusional paranoia...and that can be harmful. This person should seek some help if they can't go a single day with enjoying life, but rather live in constant fear over the idea of death. I hope this helps.

Unless the fear is unreasonably intense and interferes with daily activities, I would say that this is neither a mental condition nor depression. It's relatively human to have some fear of death or dying, because it's an unknown experience.

A fear of death or of someone dying could be associated with several mental disorders, but if there is a valid cause for concern then no, also sometimes fearing death or the death of another is a completly natural "emotion" for lack of a better word.
If it is a persistant occurance then it may be a symptom of a mental disease.

I think we'd have to call it a rational fear. it's something we all have to come to terms with eventually, though some folks seem to avoid it most of their lives.

We had a woman who worked with the elderly, and someone asked her if the people she'd known who were approaching death were afraid of dying. She said that the only ones who were afraid of dying were the ones who had been afraid of things their whole lives.

For younger people, an awareness and respect for death is probably healthier than the sense of invincibility that a lot of young people seem to have. They think they won't die no matter what idiotic things they do.

I don't know the whole story, but we had a car wreck recently in this area where the teenage driver and another passenger had to be airlifted to the city to be treated. Yet another teenager passenger died at the scene. Speed is thought to be a factor. I imagine the driver will be haunted by that decision for the rest of his life if he survives.

First in that case we have reason to be depressed, Hay everyone including YOU dies, but thanks be to Jesus that if we will but be-live in Him we will have everlasting life [John 3:16] if we meet the conditions which it is offered for example John 14:15, So cheer up, but if you do not intend to live for Christ and put Him first, seek Him and He promises you WILL find Him, then both of you should be depressed, because Jesus bought You time but you do not know when it is up, God bless, questions wgr88@yahoo.com Free Bible lessons www.itiswritten.com

I don't think it's a sign of depression, I think it's boredom, or just playing mind games with yourself, sometimes we all do this.
But, if you feel you may be depressed, then, you really need to look into it.
